I just thought given there was a few released to market whether some are off straight on eBay first time the fees are low. To be honest, fair play to them if they have the buyers and it is a case of having bought a loco and never used it and it happened to be popular. It's just annoying to those who want one! TPE 68 last year prime example but at least Dapol listened and are doing more. The 70s (and 68s as above) were readily available in shops for a while I just was out of the hobby then. On the other hand I do think it's a bit tight with limited editions like Rocket where they sold out more or less instantly and then went straight on eBay. Basically like ticket touts. I think you are being very sensible Tom, you've set your limit in what you'll pay for the 70 and wont budge! Each model is worth a different amount from person to person. There are some models I'd pay a handsome sum for, which others would dismiss as silly money, and vice versa!

Mostly because I'd be surprised if Bachmann don't do another. They retooled the intakes on the 70 and have only done 2 models from it I think? And typically the minute I give somebody a wad of money for one they'd announce it!

I’d like a Scotrail Saltaire class 170, but have the same reservations, i’m seeing them £275+.. yet Bachmann is retooling it.. and if people are paying that for the old one, surely that makes it a target for the new one, eventually... They are supposedly doing it too aren't they. But £275+ will be the figure as I'd be amazed if it's not the same as the 159. I am keen for them to do a 158 or a 170 in Northern or ScotRail. My preference is a 158 though especially a 3 car although I aren't holding out much hope given the new 150 is off into Northern and the new 170 is ScotRail

Just searched every now and again to see if any had appeared in stock given a lot of retailers seem to be putting shelf stock on and lo and behold there was one there this week. BJ models is where I got it from. I can see from the box it has been sat on a shelf for a while as the box has a slight sun fade.

RMweb Gold Markwj Posted June 5, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 5, 2020 Well done but just a warning don't know if you run DCC or not but I found mine a real pain to chip! Screws buried deep in the body past the bogies and the body was very reluctant to come off! Good luck.

The new arrival has now been chipped and run in. One bogie is worse than the other screw wise but a decent screwdriver and holding the loco at an angle so you can see what you are doing helps a lot I have found. The body was as you say not very forthcoming once I had the screws undone. It's a shame when they modified the tooling for the intake mod they didn't update the circuit board to offer similar functionality to the 90 lighting wise. When I chipped mine, I dabbed a small amount of UHU onto the end of the screwdriver, both undoing and tightening back up. Even doing that, I still lost one

Yep, my Dad taught me many years ago to always use the right tool for the right job. Makes one hell of a difference. Oh, and he always taught me to buy good quality tools, they pay for themselves in the long run. Roy

Yeah, that might be the correct way of doing things but remember, we’re blokes and we apply the same amount of logic to using tools as following a instruction manual
Br60066
I found that access was massively improved if you carefully unclip and remove the bogie frames from the bogie assembly before attempting to touch the screws (anyone that’s serviced a Bachmann model will know what I’m talking about). Far less likely to lose screws that way
RMweb Gold adb968008 Posted July 12, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 12, 2023 (edited) Wow its been a while since a post in this thread…. but here we go… another one just like the other one.. boy how long you are… I think this has been quite long awaited for a new one… the glazing looks much more clear, 21 pin DCC but I dont see much difference to the older one (its still a little light weight at 434g, the 47 next to it is 604g) if you missed 70805, you still have a second chance of a factory finished one by buying the valence from it here https://Bachmann-spares.co.uk/product/category/814/class-70-body---70805---buffer-beam-body-part-only-31-591/e3158-200-09#mz-expanded-view-580099450557 its been exactly 3 years since last time it went “rare” so I suspect several like me have been waiting on it returning. The only graphical difference I noted is the Helmet style… gut feel, theres a bit of pent up demand for another Colas 70, it would seem strange to run this model all on its own, I wonder if a second (well third) one is coming with the latest revised Colas logo ?
