Looks very convincing to me. What about a longer shot? We rarely get this close to our models.

I often take close up shots and then get bitterly disappointed because a close up always highlights the errors and once I’ve seen something that’s not quite right it bugs me and it’s all I focus on and can see it from a mile away

This evenings efforts, used a thin piece of plasticard, scored and folded into a ‘V’ then glued and pressed against the individual ‘tiles’

Hopefully a coat of matt varnish will blend it all together

I think it’s worked okay

As I’d hoped a blast of Matt varnish has tied it all together (and got rid of the shiny mess left by my over enthusiastic use of superglue)

Depressingly cruel close up

Weathering should help even further

I still need to make the gents to go on the left hand side with the parts I have left, although I haven’t figured out which bits to use and the orientation. At the moment a plain wall at the front and door on the end is the easy option

Just to spoil things a little, the lead in a valley must go under the slates, water runs off them and into the valley and down into the guttering.

To be fair to Chris, we may have confused him somewhat. Back on page 49 we discussed this, and Chris did originally model it with the flashing in the valley underneath the tiles.

However, we then had a discussion regarding flashing where a roof butts up against a vertical wall, where the flashing does often go over the tiles.

Hi Chris, I know you are a perfectionist and I suffer from the same condition as my old Mum always used to tell me.

But it looks fine and by the time the roof is weathered it will be great.

Cheers, Ade.

Thanks Ade

Yes trying to get things perfect is a curse

I've filled, filed, sanded and re-painting the roof and also painted down the gap with the 50:50 blue/grey mix

I will probably weather it heavier than originally planned

While that’s drying I’ve had a look at the fascia

As per the kit

Small and subtle

Personally I quite like the larger one

Thoughts anyone?

I quite like the smaller one, Less is more, and very subtle, but what do I know, I've never even managed to get a Kit Roof on square yet.:fie:

In the end I decided to go in between the two

And carefully notched out the frame around the valance

It won’t be attached flat to the wall as shown in the photo, there will be a gap between the wall and bargeboard....so I’ll have to notch out the valance a little more to suit

Yes, I’m very annoyed with myself for my miss understanding, I should have left it alone

It’s almost back to how it was but not quite as good :(

We've been to Ikea today  despite not really wanting to go I did spot a couple of interesting items l could make use of, especially a computer desk that could be re-purposed as a modelling table with drawers for paint brushes and tools etc

Anyway on the way back whilst crawling along the M6 I got thinking about the bargeboards and decided to add the strip I’d cut off (waste not, want not)....

Much better than just a plain board I thought, I’ve also put a thin strip behind to set it away from the wall

Undecided on the colour, not sure whether to go dark or light stone....I’ll probably go dark

Surely the GWR would have stipulated which colour to use in their manual?

I’ve looked at photos that show either

As always I’m not strictly adhering to any prototype, however I do like how you’ve done your buildings on Bethesda sidings using both light and dark

I like that Bargeboard Chris. Last time I went to Ikea I came away with two Lack baseboards from the bargain section :)

the computer desk I’ve seen has a cupboard to the left for the tower with a drawer above it and a hole in to top for monitor leads....I’m thinking compressor in the cupboard and the air hose for the airbrush through the hole ;)

Plus there’s a drawer under the desk which I assume is for the keyboard that would be ideal for paints, brushes etc

Just something else I can spill superglue on

Thanks Steve

Luckily the thinner strip just tucks in nicely behind the canopy valance frame

I’d love to say I planned it that way but it was pure luck

Thanks, I think it was sometimes a case of the painting foreman choosing which shade to use!
