A little something to stop the trains hitting the wall

Peco rail-type and sleeper-type kits suitably painted.

Details include dry-brushing green paint onto the moulded weeds on the sleeper blocks and patting wet red and white paint with a cotton-wool bud to bring up the grain before dusting the lot with weathering powder.

I should take up a new hobby. Fencing. ;)

There is now over six feet of adapted Ancorton fence protecting the yard from homes and playing fields.

Reading your thoughts on adverts like to stay in touch - thanks

So far so good as the deluge of site-blocking adverts has currently dried up.

After some finishing work with a bit more green and some ground weathering the yard area is now significantly complete.

Always more to do of course but I can put the stock back, clear the next section and progress that.

The yard crane has also had a touch of weathering with some grime and rust added.

Apologies for the sideway views - it’s the usual incompatibility between iPhone and board software.

Another marathon painting session and all the rails are now weathered. Passenger lines completed along with conductor rails. Just detailing of the “pots” outstanding.

My only chocolate / cream carriage is a Hornby one bought only for use as a weathering demonstration item. It has now been condemned (!!) and sits in the “dead” road bearing the circle-and-cross symbol for no brakes and attached to the departmental shunter.

Every day’s a school day.  I was aware of the COND and the crossed circle being seen together but I didn’t know its specific meaning.

Thank you.

Paul.

The bees are back!

Fans of Penhayle Bay may recall it had a farm scene including beehives and keepers. That board was sold for further use by a fellow Aussie modeller.

Having obtained another pack of hives / keepers I am delighted to announce that Waddlemarsh also has a patch of green. Staff allotments are planned. The bees are back!

A little more work on the staff allotment patch today. Hedges and groundwork are in. The hives and beekeepers are fixed in place. There’s gorse in flower for tasty honey.

It’s time to start the final detailing and populating the layout. The shunter’s hut has had some groundwork added including provision of a bin (and an old milk churn!). We have caught a moment in time with one chap oiling his bike rather than the duty locomotive while his colleague has been attending to another sort of duty ;)

Who makes the bicycle, a 3D print? The scene looks very nice.

Martyn

Thank you.  The bicycle isn't a 3D print but is one of a pack which I think is Preiser item 10659 or similar.

I fixed that issue by editing the image so it shows correctly, then resaved it as new image.

Oooh. Can you tell what it is yet?  The corner of the board which I have been using as a workbench can no longer be used for that purpose …..

A little more work today. More colour added - some mixed wet and some dry-brushed.

Fans of Penhayle Bay might recall that many years ago I purchased a small tub of “bonsai chippings” at a garden centre and found all manner of uses for them. I only ever used half the pot but along with all the other scenic materials it came back to London with me. Some of those chippings have now found a use as stepping stones.

Also being added, trimmed and stuck into superglue, are clumps of “Field Grass” which is what some of us used before we had static grass applicators. Some, like myself, continue to do it this way.

The layout is called “Waddlemarsh”. The stream and the land inside the bend will form the marsh in which to waddle. When fully vegetated it will also become home to an old favourite - the Penhayle Bay mermaid travelled safely around the world and will have a new home in the water here.
