RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted February 25, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 25, 2019 I saw how you'd made your gate, and just copied the idea but using wood instead of plastic. With it being 7mm and potentially very close to the camera, it seemed the right thing to do. Time will tell if I can paint it convincingly.
RMweb Gold Alister_G Posted February 25, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 25, 2019 Yep I agree, given the scale and how close to the camera it will be, using wood makes complete sense. Are you going to go for crossing-gate white as a finish or leave it as natural wood? If the latter, maybe Colron (á la Allan Downes' ) or other wood-stain might work? Al. RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted February 25, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 25, 2019 I'm going for white, though it might have seen better days... given the time span of the module is about 30 years, it needs to look careworn but looked after, if that makes any sense whatsoever. Yep. It would probably be planed timber originally, rather than the rougher look it has at the moment, but I guess over time that might get worse. Nice clean black ironwork, and white paint, sounds good. Al.
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted February 25, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 25, 2019 A pair of gates. 3
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted February 25, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 25, 2019 I've added the strengthening plates.
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted February 27, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 27, 2019 I gave the gates and posts a coat of H34 Matt white. It wasn't very impressive as I think the white has 'gone off' (probably hasn't, probably needed more mixing...). So today I gave one gate a coat of what I thought was gloss white - nope - it was Ivory (H41). Which resulted in a lunchtime trip to KMRC to purchase some more paint, and a backscene with clouds. I found myself looking at the O gauge locos and thinking, 'Hmm, not that expensive..."
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted February 27, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 27, 2019 (edited) The road surface has had the first coat of paint and a dusting of gravel ( talc). Further ground cover will add more gravel to the off-road area and more tarmac-ish stuff to the road surface. RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted February 28, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 28, 2019 More paint added, to the road and the crossing timbers. 7
RMweb Gold Alister_G Posted February 28, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 28, 2019 Lovely work on the crossing timbers Stu, really cracking bit of weathering, and the road surface is excellent too. I have never managed to do a convincing tarmac surface, but that's really good. Al. 3
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted March 4, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 4, 2019 An interesting post by Mikkel showing Modelu figures can be modified. 2
RMweb Gold Mikkel Posted March 6, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 6, 2019 Will you be trying it on your figure for thsi cakebox, Stu? It looks as if he is just the right height for the mini though.
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted March 6, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 6, 2019 He is the right height, but his jacket needs to be flattened where he's leaning on the car. As he is, his arm doesn't reach across to the roof.
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted March 10, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 10, 2019 I really need to make some progress on this (and 'Adelstrop'), before the end of the month. Excuses such as being made redundant and having to apply for new internal jobs is not really the issue.

GeoffinOz
Which one of the two boys is the man grown up? Must be the one on the left as he is in a similar(ish) pose. Have you got a lady to stand with the man by the car, then it could be the little girl grown up.
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted March 12, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 12, 2019 Er, they are all boys... I'll only use one of three, possibly the one nearest the camera. I also need to find a suitable young man and ideally a scooter (Vespa).
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted March 13, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 13, 2019 I've painted the rest of the fence for the back of the scene and some black plates on the gates. Now contemplating the two versions of the garage. 5
