On the last day of passenger trains east of Friargate, I saw a Brush Type 4 (Class 47) crossing Bennerley Viaduct on a holiday train heading for Derby. If you include DMUs, in 1963 there were two Sundays when the three morning trains from Derby to Crewe ran from Friargate. As a bonus, the train I went on also did the Potteries Loop line from Etruria to Kidsgrove I saw a diesel on the line in the mid-60s when I was a child. The bridge that carried the railway over the River Derwent from Darley Park to Chester Green used to have a footbridge on it. My grandmother lived very close to Darley Park and she'd often take me for a walk across the bridge to see her friend in Chester Green. I only ever saw one train on the bridge whilst we were actually crossing; I don't know the year but it can't have been more than 2 or 3 years before the line closed. The train was a long rake of NPCCS headed by a scruffy green class 25 going towards Friargate and Mickleover. I can still picture it now 55 odd years later. RMweb Gold nigb55009 Posted September 14, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 14, 2021 Those are chemical tanks not oil. They`re probably heading to ICI at Burn Naze on the old Fleetwood branch. They used to come from Folly Lane at Runcorn, IIRC.

RMweb Gold rodent279 Posted September 14, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 14, 2021 (edited) 25057 again, this time 4 years earlier, while still an LMR engine. Here it is seen stabled at Nuneaton on 15th September 1984, with a suitably appropriate speed restriction sign in the background, just a shame the arrow is pointing the other way! After withdrawal in March 1987, one of the last to be switched off, 057 was sent to Vic Berry's scrapyard in Leicester. However, 057 was one of the few to get out alive, and is seen here, shortly after having asbestos stripped out, in July 1988. Since you can't have too much of a good thing, to complete the story, here's a couple of 057 in service in preservation, on the North Norfolk Railway in June 2001. I like unusual liveries, but I have to admit, when I first saw it, I thought it didn't look right. It was only later that I discovered that there was historical precedent. One of my bugbears is that everything had to go into its original livery, which for most diesels, is GSYP or GNYP. I don't mind those liveries, but I do like a bit of variety. 1 1
D826
From the really rather wonderful Cyber heritage website and its images on the North Devon Line. A 25 on the Milks from Torrington prior to demolition of the island platform buildings at Barnstaple circa 78/79. There's loads of superb images of 25s on there. Well worth idling away a couple of hours with an ale or two. Good shots of the ball clays from Meeth, and the variety of wagon load freight handled at Barnstaple till about 86. Hear that Sulzer chatter ? Best regards Matt W Edited September 15, 2021 by D826 English 13

Thinking about it, the long haired person is probably a bloke - it is of course the 1970s and rock was big especially in Birmingham. The man sat down will be the gaffer and maybe they are changing a sleeper. At first I thought it was a bloke in dungarees, an old bloke sat down and a woman in a white blouse - I was thinking how did they even get to be in that location.
