CME and Bottlewasher
They look cracking Brian, really superb! Several of us have struggled to get replies/responses out of Shawplan, Railtec, Premier et al. I realise that they may be holding down several roles etc etc, yet I've waited months on end for replies, even when an order has been placed. How do you approach getting a response let alone an order fulfilled? Many thanks, CME Edited April 26, 2019 by CME and Bottlewasher

Popular Post brian daniels
Well I did not get a reply to an email but I have got my etched AC Electric arrows from Shawplan so on the last leg now. I glued them on with satin varnish. Done a bit of weathering with the airbrush on the underframe and bogies. I think the bodies on these did not get that caked in brake dust it was more of a even dusting rather than ingrained in streaks like the diesels got. Detail underneath now shows up anyway. I still have the cab roofs to glue on though which I am not looking forward to hence why they still have not been done! MGR Hooper!
Truly some amazing work on the Class 86. I would've loved to have seen you tackle the PRMRP Class 87 and Class 90 kits...

cheesysmith
The difference in under frame dirt on these is probably due to the use of rheostatic braking, making less use of the actual brake blocks, so less brake dust between cleaning. Have to wait and see if the Heljan example comes out anywhere near as good as this.

Have to agree - I didn't like the sloped fronts on the 81s - 85s. I could never decide between 86/2s and 87s which I liked best, though!! And I still contend that ex-works BR Blue, & Blue/grey on coaches was as good and smart a livery as any other. 2

brian daniels
Took a few shots of my locos on Swindon A Shop yesterday at Bill McAlpines Fawley Hill. I have now glued the 86 cab roofs on with Kristal Klear so I should be able to wet it and get them off if I need to in the future. 12
CME and Bottlewasher
Very nice indeed! Is Holiday Haunts still at FH, Brian?
brian daniels
Holiday Haunts got sold on a couple of years ago as they needed the space at Fawley for corporate events now.
brian daniels
Finally weathered the North British Class 43 that I converted a few months back. Those dusty bits will blow off! Edited May 28, 2019 by brian daniels 9
brian daniels
Also weathered this pre-production 37/4 that I painted a while back. 9

brian daniels
Don't think I put these up recently. A pre-production Heljan 7mm 33 with headlight that I painted in Dutch livery.
brian daniels
I have recently got PH Designs to do a drop in etch grill mesh for the cantrail grills for the Heljan 7mm 33. Think they improve it's look.
brian daniels
Something else Iv'e been working on is converting a Heljan 7mm 33 to a Hastings gauge one. It's not easy and it's going to be a long job as I'm going to have to get some bits etched for it. But it's coming along. 9
thedman
Good luck Brian, the tricky bit will be the fibreglass roof locks that go into and over the cantrail vents.
JeffP
You are one clever bloke, Brian. When you get stuff etched, do you do the CAD work yourself.
brian daniels
Your too kind Jeff. I must admit it's a lot easier doing this much surgery when it's a spare body! I get Pete Harvey to the CAD as well, I would not know where to start. I have added some JLTRT tail light castings and placed in a couple of windscreen wipers which thankfully cover a bit of the join/filling there. What I'm doing at the moment is filling and rubbing down then filling and rubbing down again. I have cut out the exhaust as it's got to sit on top of the new panel when I get round to it. I'm tempted to wait and fit new etched cantrail grills first then do the panels to fit. 10
RMweb Premium Hal Nail Posted July 9, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 9, 2019 Nice work. You obviously took a slice out through each cab window - did you go along the roof at exactly the same point (presumably somewhere through the cantrail grills?).
