Locksley Posted September 2, 2019 Author Share Posted September 2, 2019 I bit the bullet and weathered up the Peckett after being fairly satisfied with the performance after a good sesh on the rolling road. I also denumbered it to represent a more generic Peckett house-liveried loco. I'm also on the home straight with the layout, all of the major 3d printed components are installed, I just need to put together the final partial section of the backscene along with the lean-to building that goes with it, and I think I'm going to build the front section of the building that would be in the space at the front on the right hand side, hopefully that will serve as quite a nice bit of foreground detail in photos to add a bit more of a feeling that it's a real location. The road looks loads better now it's been toned down and I'm fairly happy with the weeds around the track. I've ordered a large flatbed artic and an LWB Transit van from Oxford which I'm going to weather and stick on the road too. I've also taken the plunge and headed over to the dark side... I've ordered one of @Bill Cuthbert's Arduino based DIY DCC kits which I'm very exctied to try out. hmrspaul Posted September 3, 2019 Share Posted September 3, 2019 Remarkable piece of work - although underfoot needs some down grading as you say - I'm not convinced Aldwarke had used much ballast as such just a lot of slag from the works. I've always thought that part of the UES Stocksbridge site would make an excellent model. I think I'm nearly there with the layout, I added some scatter to the trackbed which helped break it up a tad, and I've put together the office block to go at the front. I was in two minds whether to bother with this incase it just got in the way but it actually makes a really nice feature in photos and helps give the illusion that there's more outside the scene. All that's left are a couple of bins and some A/C units which are in the printer now, and I'm still waiting on the Oxford Transit and flatbed artic which I think will finish it all off nicely. In other news, the DCC Arduino kit arrived and it works bloody brilliantly. I can now sit on the sofa and run my 57 up and down from across the room The only slight issue is a bug has been found in the code which prevents the Android app reading and modifying CV values but Bill has very kindly offered to send me an updated Arduino Pro Mini with the new code in place. I can highly recommend the kit for anyone looking to get into DCC for pretty much as cheap as it gets! And finally, I got the little Peckett finished off. I added a 3d printed coal bucket and a few bits of coal on the running boards, along with a crew from Hardy's Hobbies which sets it off beautifully. 17 1 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Locksley Posted September 9, 2019 Author Share Posted September 9, 2019 So, aside from the Oxford vehicles which still haven't turned up, I think the plank is pretty much finished. Final details were a couple of large rubbish bins and some A/C wall units fresh off the printer. In other news, the little Peckett is off to its new home in sunny Blackpool soon, and I may or may not have ordered a Hornby TTS 08 just to have a fiddle around with on the DCC system. Potential plan for this one is to fit a better speaker and respray into Tinsley's 09008 'Aldwarke', I can't think of a more appropriate livery although I doubt the real thing ever visited. The Janus finally got a respray too and its wire handrails which looks better than it did. Still needs a matt coat which typically I ran out of the day after placing a paint order. Had a quick photo sesh on Sunday with some of Dad's stock which all looked rather good. Slight change of plan in that I've decided to go for 08857 'Darnall' as it's new livery, purely as I live within spitting distance of Darnall so it's as local as I could get! I'm tempted, if the repaint is easy, to get a couple more and do a few of the Tinsley fleet. My Dad's already expressed his interest in one The LWB Transit and DAF Low Loader finally turned up too. They're really nice models but massively benefit from a matt coat and weathering. While I was at it I also had a mate's British Steel Janus in for a debrand and weather up so I got that done at the same time. Having just started modelling again after a multi-decade gap, the amazing work in this thread has left me with much the same feeling Never mind. I still get pleasure from picking out a terrible tune as long as no-one's listening, and I'm pushing on with my colliery layout regardless!
