Nearholmer
I was instantly sure it was The Summer of 76, just by the weather. We’ve had a couple of hotter ones since, but that year the sky actually looked like it does in the Mediterranean.

montyburns56
Leiston station 1975 by Blue-pelican-railway If you like these photos and their ilk can I recommend that you spend some time browsing the Photostream of Blue-Pelican-railway as it has literally hundreds of pictures of small (and not so small) pictures of station in the early 70s-80s often in a state of disrepair. Especially interesting are ones of lines closed in the 60s, but still with the infrastructure remaining. https://www.flickr.com/photos/blue-pelican-railways/page18 17

Johann Marsbar
Braintree was quite respectable in 1977 - plus they had just electrified the line, though the catenary wasn't live at the time of my photo....

RMweb Premium Northmoor Posted July 26, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 26, 2021 Two things those images have reminded me of: 1. An RM article in the early 80s on scratch-building Felixstowe Beach signal box in 4mm scale; 2. Michael Palin starting the last leg of his Round the World trip, boarding a DMU at Felixstowe Town. 1

RMweb Gold chris p bacon Posted July 28, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 28, 2021 I think I visited there in 71/72 as a 9/10 year old on a Lakes family holiday. If I'm right there was a model railway operated by a club in one of the waiting rooms.

Virtually every serious re-opening scheme (and plenty of successful preserved railways) in the UK, are lines closed after 1/1/68.

RMweb Gold roundhouse Posted August 5, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 5, 2021 (edited) Not so decrepit these days although no trains any more. Photo taken in 2020 on a road trip via Richmond. There is a small brewery in the modern extension but it hadnt opened at the time we were there despite the signs saying it was.
