My memory is going, the cab rear/bunker casting includes the flanking lockers.  So its just the one between the rear spectacles to add, and that will probably just be a block of whitemetal or whatever comes to hand.

The backhead section/floor assembly drops into the cab and pushes against the cab front.  The rear section then drops in on top of the floor.

So not a lot left to do, and I can start painting.

Cheers, Dave.

Looking good Dave. My 7mm O2 has been very interesting to do. I'm glad I decided on a particular loco right from the start and compiled lots of images from the book collection.

So many variations between locos - pipes, boilers, boiler fittings, handrails, cab height, lamp irons, under footplate pipes etc.

I found very quickly that it was wise to ignore photos of the IoW variants as they were different in more ways than just the extended bunker.

I'm pleased to see that, unlike the Kernow model, you've not added cab doors. Given the amount of research that has obviously gone into that model, and all the variants being produced, I'm lost as to why a feature that appears to have been added to IoW locos has been carried through to the mainland ones.

Mind you, my connoisseur kit told me to fit them, which I did...before having to cut them out.

Hi Chris,

Thanks very much, you are right about the variations, I haven't found two the same yet!  One of the reasons for converting to a Drummond boiler was to have a clear individual model.

I've only found one photo of an O2 with what appear to be cab doors, and that's Barry Eagles' photo of 30225 in the scrap road at Eastleigh. (which I think you have?)

The same goes for the G6 and T1, no doors apparent.  I guess doors would have been more trouble than they were worth, as there's precious little space for them to go when open.

One question that you may be able to answer, where cab interiors painted cream?  Its difficult to tell from most photos due to lighting.

All the best,

Dave.

PS  Just realised that my kit is missing the injector pipework, I can contact SEFinecast, or does anyone know of  a set available elswhere?

Having found the exploded diagram I now know why the injectors are missing; they ain't included in the kit!

Trying to cobble something together that looks the part.

I've cobbled some injectors together, using the whitemetal injectors from the 700 kit (totally wrong for that loco) with some old clack valves soldered on.  these were then filed to roughly the shape of the O2 injectors, or at least the bits you can see poking put from behind the footsteps.  I drilled them and fixed copper wire in place and then bent to shape.

With some holed drilled in the footplate, the assemblies can then be fixed in place.  Please ignore the temporary Blue-Tac fixing!

Now for some sandpipes.

Sandpipes done, and I've added lifting eyes to the tank tops.  A simple triangle of brass with  hole in it.

These are prominent in photos, but absent from drawings.

Hi Dave

Here are a few photo of the Drummond 700 you did for me, and a fantastic job you did on her, first photo is just after numbering up, looking a bit Ex work, the second set of photo are after the weathering shop has been to work.

Run's like a dream.

IMO I actually think that your rendition is preferable to the RTR Kernow version that's fast approaching these shores.

Can't put my finger on exactly what it is though, possibly the fine brake rodding and the open cab.

I presume the cab roof gap will be sorted near the end?

Excellent job.

Very nice indeed Dave. With reference to the earlier discussion about cab doors, 30225 certainly did have them, right up until withdrawal (and my model of that loco includes them). They can be seen in this picture:

The other thing to note about 225 is that someone, somewhere along the line, scrubbed off the paint on the splasher beading to reveal the brass beneath, something seen here on 30236: https://www.flickr.com/photos/irishswissernie/5732838151/

Tricky to do on a whitemetal splasher...

Hi Chris,

Thanks very much for the compliment.  The etched brakegear is very nice in this kit, as long as you get the bend in the rod in the right place.  Turned brass/steel buffers, brass pipework, dart etc, make a big difference as well.

The cab roof is sticking up as its too tight a fit at the moment and needs easing.  Needless to say it fitted perfectly before I painted it!

Hi Adam,

Thanks very much.  Yours was the Gibson kit, as featured on the first page of this thread wasn't it?  A very nice model indeed, do you have any more photos?

I'm interested in how you did the lining on the splashers, please can you give any advice?  I'm using HMRS Pressfix for the tanks etc, but those splashers are very small.

All the best,

Dave.

In case anyone is unaware, SEF do a PP Kit for M7/O2. Looks really smart Dave. I remember 30199 quite well from 72A .

Phil

Thanks very much Phil, I wasn't aware of that.

We chose 30199 in order to model it with a Drummond boiler, my friend Mark is planning to get a Kernow push-pull version.

The one feature of 30199 we haven't included is the patched sidetanks.

All the best,

Dave.

Hardly two the same was my conclusion when looking at detail differences. Interesting that there appears to to a hole in the cab opening return on the right hand side.

The lining, I remember was waterslide, possibly Model Master. Lots of patience, cocktail sticks and prodding with damp brushes if I remember rightly. There's no simple answer, I'm afraid.

Here's the pictures I have - the doors are both modelled, but one is open.

I started the lining with the splashers, as I expected them to be the fiddliest bit.  Its made up of several bits cut from the HMRS sheet, as there isn't an exact match.

They look OK as long as you don't get to close!  As its a "layout loco" rather than a showcase model it should be pass muster, and a bit of weathering will help.

Photos will follow when its all done

Cheers, Dave.

Well that was a marathon!  I've not done full lining on a passenger tank before, there's an awful lot of it.

It still need varnishing which hopefully will seal in all the visible bits of carrier film etc, or I guess that's inevitable with HMRS Pressfix transfers.  It looks a bit flaky in places at the mo, but that's a lot less obvious at normal viewing distances.
