Are you going to get "finished" by the Exeter show ?

Errrr... Can I let you know?  Is Darren coming?

Anyway, I think the last bits of soldering have been done (sighs of relief) time to stick some castings in place.

Here's a final set of photos in bare brass, had to remember not  to sneeze, as most of the little bits were balanced in place for the photos.

Yes, this is where the problems show up, the skew-whiff buffer, the bent lampiron etc, etc.

But on the whole I think it looks pretty good.

Cheers, Dave.

Thanks for all the comments guys, and sorry for recent lack of updates.

I'm currently reorganising my home workshop (garage) due to the fact I am finishing work next week under a Voluntary Severance scheme, and for me it amounts to Early Retirement.  So, I'm planning/hoping to have more time for modelling!

Rest assured Darren, the 700 WILL be finished and delivered to you at the Barnstaple Show.

All the best,

Dave.

And the handrail knobs are at the correct angle.....

Enjoy your forthcoming retirement Dave - probably be about 6 weeks before you find yourself wondering how on earth you ever found time to go to work.

At last some progress to report, after the rather longer than anticipated hiatus.

All cleaned up and chemically blackened ready for the paintshop

Painted with Halfords matt-black, giving a nice sheen, its ready for final assembly.

Darren will be adding number, insignia and weathering.

Darren, do you want the cab interior painted cream?  I think it should be black, but cream makes it all show up better.

OMG! , she looks amazing, going to be the pride of my fleet!, yes Dave do the cab in cream as I think this would look a lot better on the model.

One thing Dave the pins on the rods seem to be sticking out a long way?, are these cut/filed back?.

Darren

PS. I want to press more like's !.

Thanks Darren,

The crankpins aren't finished yet, they haven't all got their nuts on.  Once all the nuts are screwed on I will file the pins to length.

I'm just painting all the umpteen bits of pipework etc, then I can fix it all together.  The boiler isn't fixed to the footplate yet.

Not sure what to do about the injectors yet, the castings in the kit bare little similarity to the prototype.

Thanks for all the "likes" guys,

Cheers, Dave.

Hi Dave

The  injectors look almost the same as a T9/ M7  if your not happy with the ones, would not Southeast fine cast not have them?, as they have the T9 and M7 ones.

I have had parts from them before, do you want me to give them a call and get them?

Looking good

Darren

Hi Darren,

That would be a great help. as I don't think I'll have time to get them and fit them before Barnstaple.

While about it, could ask them for a reversing lever?  That is completely absent from the kit, and I presume it will be the same as a T9?

Many thanks, Dave.

If I can make it to Barnstaple I hope to see this. Nice work Dave. I believe you are taking Charmouth as well.

Don

Hi Don,

Yes, I will be at Barnstaple with Charmouth. Hope you can make it.

Cheers, Dave.

Its seems to be taking me ages to finish the final assembly.  So many of the details parts have to be fitted AFTER painting, and so have to be glued in place rather than soldered.  This obviously takes longer and has to be done a bit at a time, but the last few bits should be on tonight.  Then its a good check over to see if I've missed anything!

With any luck, there will be photos tomorrow.

Cheers,

Dave.
