Any further update on this layout? Thinking of doing an LT layout next too. Need some inspiration.

I have to say that not much has happened regarding the layout as I have moved and trying to get the house sorted on a limited budget but hopefully that will change soon, watch this space....

After a long delay, I decided to start work again on the layout by starting work on the station building.  The story is that the station was built along with  to fit in with the local area with red brick by using the Metcalfe PO237 Country Station as a starting point, I changed a few things by swopping the ladies waiting room and booking office and making a larger waiting room with booking office next to the station offices.  There was a chimney for the fire in the ladies waiting but I want to show that it was removed and building work was done and new tiles on the roof used in the repair.

The gents waiting room will be turned into a shop, cafe or offices and the station managers house is going to turned a traincrew depot or LT offices.  Had I been able to change the door to the front, I would have turned that into commercial premises as well.  The station sign if from a set made by Modelmaster Jackson in Ayr.  The station needs more work by adding after market chimney pots, guttering, down pipes and signs for the shop, cafe or offices, so if anyone knows anyone who does them, please let me know.

I plan to use Metcalfe's PO340 Platform Canopy set at the back of the station to finish off the station and then add blinds or adverts in the windows, then gentle weathering.

Let me know what you think.

I think that's got the style and feel of one of the outer LT suburban stations just right

Glad you like it, though there's loads more work to be done.

Hello everyone,

Just thought I would give a update.  Been working on my station building and added two Metcalfe canopy kits and decided to used the free Metcalfe kit that was in Railway Modeller to open up the station masters house and convert it into a shop.  I was never very happy with the front age but I think it looks a lot better though I must admit it does look a bit of a bodge.

I have added some Wills chimney pots and the final parts that need doing are adding and painting the guttering, covering the modelling scars with Woodland Scenics leaf cover to look like ivy is climbing the walls, bushes and light weathering.

I still not sure if the keep the shop as a art shop or something else.  I also want to turn the other building into either a estate agent, newsagent or cafe.

Let me know what you think.

It looks good,  I like the way the whole thing goes together.  The shop works well.  As to the type of shop, I am trying to think of what is usually at tube stations.  An Art shop would work, or perhaps a dry cleaners?  Are you going to do an interior?

I plan to do interiors and yes, the shops can be varied.  I struggled with shops in and around stations but I think either a newsagent, estate agent, cafe or taxi office would be best options.

There is often shops divided into two separate businesses. Perhaps one side a hairdressers and the other side a newsagents. As your layout is set in London taxi and car hire offices were until recently rare in inner London due to restrictions in favour of the 'black' cabs.

For varying reasons, decided to give up on the LT layout and offering the station building FOC to anyone who might be interested, just pay for the box for it to go in, packing peanuts and postage.  Shame to let it end up in the recycling.

Mention it on 'District Dave' if you haven't done so already, its bound to find a new home.

The buildings are now safely (minus the chimney pots which came off in the post) at a new home on my new London Underground layout, which I hope to be sharing on here soon.

For a little flavour here are some shots of the buildings alongside my more modern Underground stock.
