Andy Y
I had chance to look over the first engineering prototype sample of the forthcoming N Class today. It looks superb and will pull an N gauge house down managing 13 Mk 1 coaches around the test track with ease. There's a few bits not sitting straight on the sample but that's what they're there for. RMweb Premium Claude_Dreyfus Posted February 27, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 27, 2014 Nice... The N class will be one of my few forays into British steam (I have a soft spot for these locos...indeed one makes up 50% of my 00 fleet!), so looking forward to this one being released. RMweb Gold TomE Posted February 27, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 27, 2014 Ok, so it's not the U class I really need for Ropley, but I think I've just had a small crisis. That looks beautiful! Cheers Andy. Tom.
RMweb Gold queensquare Posted February 28, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 28, 2014 The problem with the rest of the loco being so good is that it does emphasise those great big hexagonal nuts - and that return crank is a whoppa! That said, nothing that can't be fixed if it bothers you. Stunning stuff. Jerry
RMweb Gold TomE Posted February 28, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 28, 2014 Agreed Jerry, although I think in Andy's photos the effect of the return crank is somewhat emphasised by it not being blackened. That said, it could stand some finessing! Tom.
RMweb Gold queensquare Posted February 28, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 28, 2014 ............ That said, it could stand some finessing! Tom. I know I could certainly do with some 'fitnessing!! Jerry
RMweb Gold roundhouse Posted February 28, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 28, 2014 Superb looking, the photo could even pass for a 00 scale one!! Looking forward to getting a few of these and weathering them! Ian
RMweb Premium eldavo Posted February 28, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 28, 2014 Oh no, just felt a twitching in my wallet! What a cracker. Cheers Dave
Roy L S
It looks superb. Just when I though I had my list of "wants" from the future releases sorted too! I have absolutely no need for one, but I think this may have to be one of those cases where "Rule 1" is unashamedly applied! Roy
Robin Brasher
I look forward to seeing this. I am modelling the Swanage Railway and 31404 from Salisbury shed worked stock to Swanage on 22 August 1961. The U class was a more frequent visitor so I wonder if I can get away with renumbering an N class.
RMweb Gold TomE Posted February 28, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 28, 2014 I look forward to seeing this. I am modelling the Swanage Railway and 31404 from Salisbury shed worked stock to Swanage on 22 August 1961. The U class was a more frequent visitor so I wonder if I can get away with renumbering an N class. The N class has 5ft 6in drivers verses the 6ft ones on the U class which also has splashers to accommodate the larger wheels, so there is some visual difference in the footplate area and below to consider. I''ll have to indulge in some historical adjustment when it comes to Ropley and imagine that the MHR recently returned 31874 to service rather than 31806, or I could set the line after August this year and then I wouldn't need either!! RMweb Gold Adam1701D Posted February 28, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 28, 2014 It's a beauty. If Dapol's WC / BB's don't disappoint, then I may be feeling renewed Southern urges....
Wyvern
this will be great for my layout once converted to 2FS
RMweb Premium Kris Posted March 1, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 1, 2014 Other than the points already picked out it's a lovely looking model, and I've just worked out that I can justify at least one of these
Les1952
Given that a Grange made it to Huddersfield (taking a chunk out of Darley dale station platform on the way admittedly), how far North did the N get in BR service? All the very best Les
Anglian
It looks fabulous above the footplate.
RMweb Premium Kris Posted February 20, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 20, 2015 Looks like delivery dates on this are slipping. Previously had been April/May now June/July.
RMweb Gold TomE Posted February 20, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 20, 2015 Disappointing news if that is the case, but par for the course at the moment it seems. Tom.

RMweb Gold roundhouse Posted February 20, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 20, 2015 I too had an email from Hattons saying it was now June / July but have also been caught out by that when the items turned up a few months earlier.
RMweb Gold Revolution Ben Posted February 20, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 20, 2015 Hello all, Is there a preserved one of these, or one used on main, ine steam specials? I rode on the Settle and Carlisle line a few years ago on a steam special hauled by a loco that looked like this.... Maybe Sir Lamiel? Cheers Ben A. RMweb Gold TomE Posted February 20, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 20, 2015 Hi Ben.There is only one N class left in existance, number 31874.Until recently it was based on the Mid Hants, but had not been steamed since around 1998. It left the MHR last year and is due to undergo restoration at the Swanage railway.Tom.
N Gauge David
Is this a loco driven model like the BR Std 5, or a tender mounted motor?
RMweb Gold TomE Posted February 20, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 20, 2015 Is this a loco driven model like the BR Std 5, or a tender mounted motor? Loco Driven, DCC chip in the tender. Tom.
RMweb Gold TomE Posted March 28, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 28, 2015 Factory decorated samples of the N Class on display at Alexandra Palace today. Unfortunately they were scattered about the cabinet and right up at the back, so the iPhone struggled with photos and this is the only semi usable one. Having seen them in the flesh though, they really are superb little models, easily on a par with the 2MT and 4F. Farish certainly seem to be nailing the small tender locos at the moment! Tom.
