Ordered some more bh rail which arrived the next day from Slaters, great service :) so hopefully when I get a free hour I can crack on with the traxk building, this week though has seen some work on another two 20’s and I’ve finished another 08.

Also had a little photo opportunity with a half finished Duff

Thought it was about time I did an update and I’ll try and do updates at least once or twice a week as it’s something I’ve not been keeping on top of.

Falcon is now all finished and I’ve done a bit more with with ELJ although I’ve now run out of chairs :(

After spending a week away in my hols I’ve also decided a photo board is a must to majevthe most of showing my weathering off so I’ve been planning that for the last three weeks to, I’m not sure to talk about that in a separate thread or not but basically it’s going to be 4’x18” for now and be modelled on the blocks of platforms 1& 2 at Lime Street Station. This should give good photo opportunities and hopefully I’ll be able to make a couple of small videos.

I’ve alteady printed off a Templot and been experimenting with foam board for the brick platforms, I’ve also got hold of an old Hornby buffer so if I can modify this I’ll get another two.

Cheers

Just discovered this excellent thread and some fantastic work.

What paints and method did you use to weather the sleepers?

Many thanks

Mark

Thanks Mark much appreciated :)

The sleepers are first stained with Jacobean dark oak from Wilkos, then I’ve painted the rails with sleeper grime or rusty rails depending on how I want it. I’ve then dusted the rails wiyhrust powder then dusted all the track with a mix of dark earth and black powders. I’ve then added a mix of weathered black and gunmetal blue for the diesel stains and then more black power.

Hope that helps mate and if you need anymore info just ask.

Cheers

Your welcome Mark, I’ve started a new thread covering my photo plank, there’s a link earlier on this page, that’ll be covering very oily ballast if your interested mate.

Cheers

Been working on the micro/photo board over the last few nights, coming along nicely, all the buffers are more or less finished, the cork, Templot and sleepers and now down and the first few coats of staining have been applied.

Good evening everyone, well it’s been over three years since I last posted on here and in that time I’ve delved into the world of O gauge, started a career on the railway, moved house and experienced some bad times to along the way.

As some of you may know from my other threads my O gauge journey is coming to an end, as much as I love it I just don’t have the space or the motivation to carry on so after many a day and nights of long consideration I’m downscaling and building my depot layout based on Edge hill in 4mm again with hand built track, I’m not going down the EM or P4 route though.

why am I posting here you may wonder?  Well yes my efforts will be put into building Edge Hill in OO but I’ve still got bits from the original ELJ in the garage so when I finally get the garage converted and my main project is well and truly underway then watch this space.  An exact replica of ELJ in 4mm with no extra imaginary lines will fit into roughly 9’x4’ish…

hands up who wants ELJ back :bye_mini:

So sorry CS only just seen your comment so again I do apologise.

Apart from two locos they are all sold on, the others I’m just awaiting payment.

Right must admit it’s been a while since anything model related has been posted on this thread regarding ELJ itself.  A lot of things have happened over the last couple of years, as most of you know I’ve returned to 4mm since my dive into O gauge and am currently building a depot based layout, but what’s peoples thoughts on this?

Is ELJ still popular enough to build?  Will I ever finish something I start?  One thing I do know is that I keep coming back to this…

ELJ 4th time luck?

Apologies for the photos the light was awful

The garage is getting converted next year, but to be honest the scenic section at max is only 12’ asks at its widest just under 3’ the narrowest being just 1’ and that’s if it’s built to scale, as for fiddle yard I’d prob use cassettes etc.

That's at least 26 foot then for the length in the garage and that junction element is going to point out at least 8 foot at a diagonal which you will have to be able to get around to reach the other cassettes from the main.

I would plan out the whole thing so you can see exactly how much space it will require and then how you will fit it into the garage allowing for any curves you plan if you need to bend the layout to fit.  As it's a through line you'll be spending a lot of time setting up cassettes to send and receive trains so you need to be able to navigate the three elements.  How about looking at a reversal curve so the trains go out and back from a cassette fiddleyard - a lot more train running and a lot less fiddling.  Same scenic plan as you have now but arranged like Apethorn Junction:

Would certainly be impressive! Might a helix at both ends down to a low level fiddle yard avoid the cassette issue while allowing scale length trains?

Thanks Phil I actually thought about a helix but would have you look into it a bit further, if I do start this do I hand build all track or just the points 😉
