RMweb Premium Claude_Dreyfus Posted December 23, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 23, 2014 Okay, so we have the photo threads for lots of loco classes, but nothing for my favourite class - the 73. Not until now, that is, so lets see what pictures we have of the long-lived and fascinating class. I'll get the ball rolling with a picture taken earlier today at the site of Hardham Junction (just south of Pulborough) - 73119 and 73136 top-and-tailing a track recording train
Rivercider
There are not many class 73 photos in my collection, but here is a scratched instamatic shot from 1978 73140 at Eastleigh Depot 20/5/78 cheers
RMweb Gold 4630 Posted December 24, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 24, 2014 (edited) I'll have a few of these that I can post covering several different liveries since the mid-1970s. To start off with, under a very threatening sky, 73204 'Janice' and 73209 'Alison' stabled on 2nd October 2006 at Eastleigh in the spot where 73s have been stabled for close on 50 years. Cheers, Bob.

eastwestdivide
I'm sure I've posted this before, but anyway, proof positive (or negative maybe?) that they were electrics: Strood 1984, on parcel vans from Rochester, after running round at Strood for the Tonbridge direction. Not much came out of that platform in that direction, and so you could always rely on a good show of sparks when something did. At dusk, with 1000ASA film I think. And the other side of the coin, proof that they were diesels: Lillie Bridge, about 1981-2, with 73142 on the Kensington Olympia/Clapham Junction shuttle. RMweb Gold big jim Posted December 25, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 25, 2014 they are a funny little loco, a class that has grown on me over the last few years for some reason obviously out of my geographical area so quite quirky, well i say out of my area, i remember them arriving on the merseyrail network back in the early 90s, seeing them stored in chester and now as i get around a fair bit doing possession work i see more and more of them on my travels!

The Bigbee Line
On a Sunday afternoon in 1982 I was at Dover Town Yard to work a train to Willesden. In the yard was the 'Car train'. Coupled up ready for the first leg to Southall was 73110: Also in the yard was 73131: Twenty years later 73108 stood silent in the headshunt at Toton:
