Lyddrail
Here are the new road vehicles, I will do some weathering but need a few items to complete them. Can be seen at Fareham this weekend. I had worked on this show plaque board years ago but never used it. Updated it a few weeks ago, covers 1990 to 2017. I have got an extra smaller board for 2018 to 2019. I will display these at the last show at Canterbury in January. Cheers.

Lyddrail
I like those vehicles Paul, who makes them? The fork lift trucks look good. Steve. Steve, The forklifts are Wiking tractor chassis with scratch plastic bodies based on photographs. The prototypes are Manitou. Cheers.

Lyddrail
Here are pics of weathering done pre Fareham, will do more and a few other details to finish them off. The lorry needs much more work, just weathered the interior and tail lift. The lorry didn't fit as I wanted as it is too long. Never mind. The forklifts are a bit over scale but I can live with that. Still happy with what I could do. Very pleased with the nice comments on the layout at Fareham, layout was working well too. Cheers. Lyddrail
New road vehicles are now completed. Transfers added and extra weathering done. C&W forklifts. Red early period, Yellow for later period. Building site JCB. Was going to be C&W lorry, but will not fit in the space on the layout. The red forklift and JCB will be on the layout at Canterbury. Cheers.
Fat Controller
I shall have to try and get to Canterbury this time. Those Manitou forklifts are very nice, Paul,
Lyddrail
One additional train is being completed for TWY's last show at Canterbury in January. The first 4 Seahorses were built a long time ago (too long to remember when), the extra 9 were a few years ago too with my good friend Stu spraying the two livery versions. I recently added transfers, couplings (a mixture of scale and tension locks), weathered, and this morning added the loads. The loads will be painted to match the first 4. Picture below of progress. My fellow operators should be adding several new trains & wagons also, making a large range of mostly departmental stock for a fitting send off. Don't miss it. Cheers.

That is going to be one heavy blighter Paul! Or have you used lightweight ballast?
Lyddrail
That is going to be one heavy blighter Paul! Or have you used lightweight ballast? Mike, The first 4 were solid ballast I think, and are quite heavy. The new 6 have a cork base which is wider that the width arc-ed into position between the sides and then covered with a thin layer of ballast with 3 little peaks (to be like the prototypes). These are much lighter. Cheers.
Wayne 37901
Nice job Paul. What paint did you use for the loads? I have four YGH Sealions where the ballast has discoloured. Cheers Wayne
Lyddrail
Nice job Paul. What paint did you use for the loads? I have four YGH Sealions where the ballast has discoloured. Cheers Wayne Wayne, I have just finished painting the 6 loads. That was hard work. I used Humbrol 147 a very light grey. It was not a recent tin as I no longer buy Humbrol enamel any more. There are similar shades in the range. Cheers.
Lyddrail
Seahorses are now complete except adding tail lamps after test running them. Picture below, with a few wagons that had minor repairs now done. Building repairs also completed, now layout repairs and maintenance, and a few more stock repairs to do next. Cheers.
Lyddrail
The Christmas Elfs have put TWY up for repairs and testing before the Canterbury show. Just control panels to fit and testing can begin. This buffer stop has been reassembled after a lamp was dropped on it at the Fareham show. A point motor has been replaced in the West yard too. Cheers. Edited December 27, 2018 by Lyddrail

Lyddrail
Progress getting the layout tidied up has gone well, plus test running the Seahorse rake and I think for the first time test coach Mars & a class 73. Below my MTK version of Mars. Below a photo by the late Barrie Swann in the 1990s. Below a couple of pics of the Seahorses etc. I was going to start cleaning traction wheels but my cleaning thumb is out of action for a few days! Cheers.
Lyddrail
I have finished servicing the stock, and will start taking the layout down today. I have decided to run another long disused unit at Canterbury this coming weekend. My 4L in green which I had to tweak as I hadn't run it since I added working gangways (many years ago), but sorted now. A picture of the real unit by the late Barrie Swann. There will be several guest trains running at the show with swaps for Sunday. Cheers.

Lyddrail
Hi Paul Give us a shout if you want a 50 from Tidworth. Sorry, I didn't have time to have a good look at your layout. Thanks for the offer we have had 50s on the VSOE before. Cheers.
Lyddrail
Well the weekend went very well at Canterbury, very few faults and a busy crowd for most of each day. Had a group 12 operators to say goodbye with another 14 visiting former and current operators saying hello. A fine meal and drinking occured in the city on the Saturday evening before the last farewell drinks in the hotel. To confirm the layout's history first show was Blackburn in 1990, a one year retirement in 1998 (during that year Lydd Rail was born my home Diesel & Electric exhibition), returned1999 at Gillingham Kent, then retired in 2009 at Blackburn. There was a 5 year break due to work, caring for my mother and refurbishing my old garage and grounds before the come back with a 6 month refreshing of the scenery etc at DEMU Showcase in 2015, with Canterbury being the end this year. Below the layout resting after the show. The layout will become a home layout put up for several months at a time. Friends etc will be able to visit in these periods. I intent to continue building stock for the layout, consisting of the planned projects I have not had time to do. I look forward to doing some stock projects starting with the many part built I have waiting to be completed. However, next target is to complete Redhill Up Yard scenically for it's first show in April. Cheers.
pdanny
It's been a triumph and inspiration for many of us southern region fans who certainly in the 90s were often overlooked. I was elated to see it again last year have read numerous rave reviews about TWY at Canterbury so it's great to see it still has that effect on all modellers & enthusiasts. It's legendary Paul, thanks for sharing it with us.
steve1023
And likewise, the equally legendary Maidstone Barracks. Glad I got to see both layouts.
