Having put the 8 wagons onto the back of the previosuly unloaded 8, the loco then runs round prior to propelling back out onto the main line, and then reversing direction and heading towards Ely and the Peaks

I do enjoy seeing these regular photo updates and think the layout at Eccles Road would make a fantastic model to operate! But life is too short for all these layout ideas.... Anyway, 10 days until we get the keys for our 'new' house in Watton, I may have to come and join 1 day when I'm bored of unpacking.

Great shots, Dave, thanks for braving the rain ;-)     How are the wagons unloaded so quickly?     It looks like they have been renumbered from UIC (international) to UK series?

Bill

The wagons in the last lot of photos are MBAs, built by Thrall Europe at York, not long after EWS started. The ones in the previous shots were GE Leasing wagons, The Thrall wagons have the problem of being too big, in that, if you fill them with coal, they'll gross over 120 tonnes. They also only have conventional buffing gear on the outer wagons of the sets, and AAR ones within the set.

The unloading will be by grab- with a skilled operator, this is almost as quick as hopper discharge. In yards where there's a frequent flow, they build up a 'platform from stone, so they can see the interior of the wagon.

Latest chapter.

There was a path in for last week but only the return *from* Eccles - not surprisingly it didn't run.

Earlier this week an inbound and outbound path appeared and on Tuesday 17 November the trains ran again - a dismal day for the weather.

And the latest b*llsup date

The stone was booked to run on Monday this week - 30 Nov - arriving at 10:10 - ie in daylight although the weather was grim, it was at least light but this move was cancelled and replaced by the 07:10 arrival but on 01 December - so off I went, in the dark and the rain.

01 December 2015

Eccles Road

When I took the first shot it was very dark and I turned the shutter down to 1/8s - and guess who forgot to adjust it to a faster speed ...

post-6662-0-50757500-1449048209_thumb.jpg

And so all my reversing move shots were cra blurred - I took myself off to the woods and flailed myself with a damp branch (not sure how giving myself a reward helps though) and repeated these words 1000 times

"I must check the camera settings"

Once again a fine time and nice staff.

Unfortunately there's a bit of glitch with RealTime Trains at the moment and it's not always picking up all variations to the working timetable.

Other alternatives are available.  I don't find this one as easy to use as RTT but it is at least showing this particular working.

http://www.opentraintimes.com/schedule/R27964/2015-11-30

Thanks for your reply, you're right it isn't as easy to use as RTT but does seem to have more information. It's nice to have an alternative but hopefully they will sort out RTT.

Anyway thanks for the information and also the photos etc., the Hindlow/Dowlow branch passes my house and it's nice to see where the trains go, especially this one as it appears to go in a field, (certainly unusual)

RTT is not getting all STP moves and this is generally an STP move.

I use freightlocate (.co.uk) but you have to pay - but for me, this and the Railcam site (railcam.uk (also a pay for site)) are invaluable

Does the shunter arrive by van just before trains arrival or does travel on board?

By van - see below, as it happens he gets a mention in the latest update (if you're reading this immediately, come back in 10 mins !)

And to bring the trains up to date.

The stone ran again on Thursday 17th December,  I normally check Attleborough as my nearest location for trains, but the Eccles stone doesn't pass through Attleborough - DOH ! I'd checked Thetford earlier in the week and there was nothing down, fortunately I checked Thetford when I got up (around 07:00) as the train was running and in Brandon loop - I then noticed it was booked to arrive around 08:10 rather than the more normal 07:10 - at least there would be some light around, so off I went.

17 December 2015

Eccles Road

66027 on 6Z59, 20:32, Dowlow Briggs Sdgs - Eccles Rd Exchange Sidings (08:31) - loaded stone (10 MBA) (10 = shorter than normal, probably down to Xmas/New Year)

The shunters van is visible behind, he arrives by road, informs Cambridge PSB he's on site and they let the train down from either Ely or Brandon depends where it's waiting for the path. As I say above the train was timed to arrive an hour late, but no-one told the shunter, who was keen and arrived early for the 07:00 arrival and was therefore very early for the 08:00 arrival !

The Trowse stone ran today and I went out for it, lucky as it turns out as the Eccles stone was ready to leave - and for a change it was given an early start - with hindsight the small train of 10 MBAs should have pointed to an early departure, but in the dark at 07:15 it's hard to be attentive !
