Thank you, Steve for that excellent photo’ of Goole signalbox. Tonight I have a further photo’ by Woolwinder on Flickr of a two car refurbished class 101 DMU at Nafferton, on a service to Hull at 15.40, on the 16th May, 1979.

The Class 101 at Nafferton in May 1979 could be 51230 - 56369, which is also (I believe) in this image: https://www.railcar.co.uk/images/2044

This unit was among the first to be refurbished when the scheme got underway; the prototype refurbished 101 set was doing its demonstration tour between mid 1974 and mid 1975 and it looks like West Yorkshire PTE were keen to have "their" DMU fleet refurbished and their first refurbished 108s appeared from April 1975.

Returning to the above 101, BR records show that 56369 was refurbished in February 1976, and 51230 in March 1976. For some reason, Doncaster did not outshop all of the vehicles within a 2, 3 or 4 car unit on the same date.

Being an early refurbishment, the unit had some obvious features that were not carried through to later vehicles, such as discontinuous body side rain gutters and the Blue Square MU codes painted on the cab ends.

I have found this image of a 101 that was refurbished in May 1976 and although the discontinuous gutters are still retained, the blue square codes had not been applied. 50161.jpg

Returning to 51230 - 56369 from the Nafferton image, the next planned overhaul was a "C4" in March 1978, and a C4 only involved bogie and underframe work, so no retrofit of continuous rain gutters and no repaint.

The unit returned to Doncaster Works in September 1980 at which point the rain gutters were brought up to the current standard of being continuous, and the white livery gave way to the Blue/Grey prevalent on refurbished 101s at the time.

Thank you, EddieK for the detailed information about that two car class 101 at Nafferton. It’s most informative and very welcome. So, tonight I have a further photo’ by Woolwinder on Flickr, of a down service DMU at Lowthorpe - a location not often photographed for some reason - on its way to Scarborough at 16.19, on the 16th May, 1979.  It’s formed of a two car class 114, DMBS & DTCL, and a two car class 108, DTCL & DMBS. Please note that there is no first class yellow stripe on the DTCL for some reason. Declassification to second class only did not take place until 1983. Both units are non refurbished.

I have just looked at your Flickr feed and subscribed. Are you creating a 3d representation of the Malton-Driff line?

Good evening, Pinza-C55. It’s good to see you once more, and I hope you are keeping well. I’ll have a look at those videos when I have more time. So, this evening, I have a further photo’, by Woolwinder on Flickr, and it shows a two car class 101 DMU on the 14.02 from Scarborough to Hull, entering Driffield at 14.57. As with the previous photo’, it was the 16th May, 1979. Note that the DMBS is refurbished in the white livery with a blue waistband, whilst the DTCL is unrefurbished in rail blue.

Hi micknich, do you have signalling diagrams for the current Driffield signalbox and for Driffield West ? I have based the signalling at Wansford on your old diagram published a few years ago but not found any diagrams for the other Driffield boxes, ideally about 1950 - 58.

Thanks for that Mick, the signal which had me scratching my head was number 24. I've only seen 1 photo of Driffield West Junction in 1956 and it is just a slotted post home on a relatively short post. I guess the distant arm must have been removed when the M&DR closed to passengers in 1950 ? Here's the junction in my simulation. Although I have built the whole M&DR , the Market Weighton line only goes as far as Kellythorpe crossing which you can see near the top left corner.

In May 1978 I paid my third visit to Burdale station and here is the shattered ruin on that hot summer day. It's amazing to think that restored it would have been worth a quarter of a million today today.

In my train simulator time has stood still and here is GWR 45XX class 4547 rocking through the station heading north.

Good evening, everyone. This evening I have another photo’ by Woolwinder on Flickr. It shows a two car class 105 Cravens DMU and a refurbished two car class 101 DMU on an unidentified Hull to Scarborough working, leaving Driffield on the 6th October, 1978.

Thank you, Mick, and Lord Flashheart. Some excellent photo's.

Tonight we are having a look at what I believe was a grain warehouse on the up side of the line at Beverley, just to the south of the Station LC. It is a structure that is ripe for modelling! The photo' was taken in mid-January, 1985.

Good evening, everyone, and thank you, Tyke119, for sharing that excellent model based on the grain warehouse from the photo’ I took all those years ago. I am glad the photo’ was of help for you. I will have to try and locate a copy of that edition of the Railway Modeller.
Now, this evening I have a photo’, by John Law on Flickr, of Springhead Shed, and engines 1302 and 2449. Unfortunately there is no date or indeed any other information.

No2449, ex H&BRly No68 was fitted with a NERly boiler at Springhead ex Class 901 in May 1923. AS seen here the boiler has the NERly style saftey valve "Trumpet", a 1926 photo' shows it to have been removed. Engine withdrawn July 1931.

Good evening, everyone, and thank you, Mick, for those photo’s which add to the East Yorkshire railway history. Tonight I have a photo’, by jsb303 on Flickr, of the railtour which took place in October, 1964, and worked by a four car class 104 DMU.
