RMweb Gold MarshLane Posted November 3, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 3, 2015 Guys, Does anyone know where O gauge road vehicles (cars, buses, kitties etc) can be obtained? I'm modelling the 1980s-2010s period? I'm guessing that they would need to be 1:45 or 1:48 scale for O gauge? Any help appreciated!
F-UnitMad
Depends which Country you're modelling - both for where to buy, & what scale to use. 1:48 = USA 1:45 = Germany/Europe 1:43.5 = Britain. Most road vehicles seem to be either 1:43.5 - even American types - or 1:50, which is a touch too small even for American O, but does look better next to US trains than 1:43 vehicles do. The lack of American vehicles in 1:48 is even commented on over on a US O forum I'm on.
Simond
word of caution, many model road vehicles for sale in the UK are made to a "convenience of the maker" scale to fit a given box - perferctly good cast models a la Dinky and Corgi are being churned out in 1/50 or something similar - this is particularly the case with trucks and buses, as they are larger. Its very frustrating as they look wrong (although you can perhaps hide them at the back for a bit of false perspective). The older Corgi and Dinky models were frequently 1/43.5 so ideal for UK 0 gaugers. a google search will find lots of more modern vehicles best Simon
peter220950
Solido, Oxford diecast, Corgi 'A Century of Cars range, Cararama, Corgi Classics, and Vanguards are all probably good places to start for UK suitable items but I just stuck 1/43 in Ebay and got over 120,000 items, so there's plenty out there, from tanks to tractors. You have to watch some of the ranges, like the Corgi trucks and buses, as they are 1/50, and look a bit small. There are also kits by Heller, Airfix and specialist makers that may be suitable to use/convert. Although limited there are also some military kits in 1/43 that may be use for pick-up's trucks etc. With E-bay there's even the facility to filter the search by a year or range of years, for example trimming it to 1988 gives you this choice http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_sac=1&_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=1/43&_dcat=222&rt=nc&Vehicle%2520Year=1988 So there's lots out there, it's just a matter of checking that they really are 1/43, as some ranges are not. A couple of sources I think but just google 1/43rd scale Scania [or whatever make you want] as an example. They are not cheap though - but that is not saying they are over-priced for what they are. Out of interest, if any of you are looking for LT buses of the 40s/50s, IXO models now do a pretty good AEC Regent. I've just got one from an Ebay seller in France for £39.95 + shipping. Impressed. RMweb Gold MarshLane Posted November 3, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 3, 2015 Guys, Many thanks. I'd searched Google and eBay for 1:45 (Sod's law!) and drawn a blank other than a few 1920s/1930s cars. I'm modelling UK so I'll go wade through the 1/43 options! Thanks

David Parkins Modern Motive Power www.djparkins.com The IXO buses/coaches are from a partwork from Atlas. Also in the range is an AEC Regal III with Harrington 'tail fin' body and a Thames Malta bus. A proposed model is a Bedford OB/Duple coach.

Peter You need to apply a little caution though. I've just searched for 1900-1906 cars that might be suitable for parking in the yard of my proposed layout set in 1905/6ish East Sussex, and while it might be great for driving on the roads of the time, I think this might scare the horses (as well as the local humans)! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CORGI-VANGUARDS-VA11600-1-43-PEUGEOT-309-1900CC-GROUP-N-SCOTTISH-NATIONAL-/181895616070?hash=item2a59d2d646:g:GG0AAOSwx~JWFOPT
