Folkestone-Dover sea wall wash-out

Recommended Posts

Lovely pics

Very envious of your Dover weather today. We had to endure some particularly icy short sharp hailstorms up here 'on the dry side'.

dh

In between the blue skies that David photographed, we had sleet, snow and hail.

yesterday,,Dover, had its, second allotted , 3,000 flake's of wet, snow fall of the week at 1500 hours, 2 hours after I reached home.

I reached the snow line on the ridge of the Western Heights.

Then put my glasses on, oh, it is not snow then ?

I'm curious about the pile of rail to be seen against the wall in the background in some of these shots. As I recollect, the section from Priory to Shakespeare Tunnel had been plain-lined when the area was resignalled, yet the stack of rail appears to include bits of S&C work, including a point blade and the corresponding stock rail, and a common crossing. Any idea what they might be doing there? Edited by Fat Controller

Some work has been ongoing, usually, some Sunday's,of a small working party, at the old Hawkesbury St signal box area.

Presume,its some old track work.

I missed photographing it a few times,

Interesting to see they're loading the spoil out in the way I thought they would and not from the area cordoned off by the two lines of blocks.  This has caused me to wonder if stuff is dumped there first in order to to dry out before loading (when it has come from wet areas during drilling) - hence the walls were to stop any wet or slushy stuff running all over the site and onto the adjacent roadway.

Can confirm, that is so.

Great photos what is the large building on the cliffs in the photo of the fort ,all those chaps stood looking over the fence were they on coach outing?

It forms part of Dover Castle.

You can see it top left of centre of this shot.

Well, today I made two visits, one at 1030 tjll 1200, then   1715 till 1815.

There is a lot going on,  this evenings visit, I caught the first seaward cylinder go in, a pit was dug first.

Under the guidance of a surveyor and his laser, very precise too..

It was bored/driven down, the the second cylinder, mounted and internal boring started.

Am sorry,I do not have the time to place all the ongoing work with photos tonight.

I have to update tomorrow.

The photos of the seaward pile.

Walking along the public footpath west towards Shakey.
