Ian Allan Manchester

.....There has to be a way of reforming the system to change this.

Not gonna happen - certainly not in city centres - unless landlords start to think the unthinkable, e.g. favouring small / specialist shops instead of chains.

Managed to call in today, almost for old times sake. Upstairs now shut, any remaining model stuff on a couple of racks downstairs.

Only a few coaches and wagons (minus 2!) left. Still plenty of Preiser people and bags of flock n ballast to rummage through.

All very sad. Couldn't wait to get out if I'm honest.

Went to Ian Allan in Manchester today, expecting slim pickings, but was instead greeted with a locked door and a sign informing me the shop is shut. Pity, as I was down from Edinburgh visiting a friend, and didn't expect it to close for nearly another month! Looks like my nearest one is now in Birmingham...

Or deciding that a shop being rented is more valuable than one standing empty. Lots round here that are like that but landlords seem to have the money to keep them that way.

Of course, if we want model shops in town centres, we have to buy stuff from them and not just in a closing down sale. Since I can't see modellers changing their habbits any day soon, I don't suppose it matters much if the landlords don't change.

It was stripped by bargain hunters in a haste, I missed out on any cheap models but got some books half price in the middle of May, even then it was down to less than a fraction of its stock.
