Today I went outside to join the modules. That has to be done good so that all lines up well.

At first the right two modules. I set them up:

27547193282_02eb081c16_c.jpg20160613_134826 by Ronald-45, on Flickr

First I did the back and bvolted them together with 6 mm bolts:

27612825766_2af3d60373_c.jpg20160613_140713 by Ronald-45, on Flickr

Then I did the underside:

And one in the front:

And all together:

There was still one module with a too high top valance. That had to go now:

I started the legs today. For that I use the set of my 0N30 layouy Lake Louisa who was on the Warley show in 2014. It contains of 4 wide legs and 2 small ones. The latter are now coupled. I made these in a way I always can use the again for their original layout.

The first set:

I make a sort of adapterplate that fits the current modules:

Because I need a flat floor to set things up i used the livingroom today:

First the double set that will be mounted in the middle so that it provides some extra stability:

After mounting the 2nd set it is time for stability between the legs::

And there is part 1 on its feet:

And after some hard work the 2nd part fits the first::

Some extra strength:

I did some experimenting with the layout and settle for this:

And at the right side (between the piece of wood and the drawbridge will be the right CV bridge):

One of the backside:

I finished the corners with a special profiled piece of wood:

Left corner:

Right corner:

A 5-year old can hide in one module :) :

After breaking down this is what is left, and this is also the starting point when setting up these 4 modules:

The layout!:

And on it went.

I orderd the first big stuff from Germany:

I started the bridge first. Inside the box:

First the base:

The parts:

28138655961_ae1337d70c_c.jpg20160706_203426 by Ronald-45, on Flickr

The base contains 2 parts that has to be joined together:

28138656571_617b91b8aa_c.jpg20160706_205447 by Ronald-45, on Flickr

And joined together:

28112311532_728292c36b_c.jpg20160706_211543 by Ronald-45, on Flickr

A Radler beer is good for keeping the stuff together.

Sideparts for the side:

And joined:

2 halves together, and joined to see if it fits the base:

Oke, more to build. On one side there is a girder bridge. For that I took the new Walthers 70 ft. What's in the box:

28136292832_7b06a115fa_c.jpg20160707_214449 by Ronald-45, on Flickr

The kit has good detail and is nicely molded. The base part:

28136293322_8d62e5974b_c.jpg20160707_215417 by Ronald-45, on Flickr

Underside:

28162781241_5120956fdf_c.jpg20160707_215429 by Ronald-45, on Flickr

Gluing the edges on the side walls:

28136292702_6029d3197c_c.jpg20160707_223532 by Ronald-45, on Flickr

Base ready sofar:

28162781001_07d78135fb_c.jpg20160708_093553 by Ronald-45, on Flickr

Normally now would be the time to glue together the 3 parts and build on from that, I choose to not do this and assemble all 3 parts together when complete, painting then is much easier this way.

6 strips will be glued to the base floor:

Testfit with the open deck:

27959811190_49880b4e8a_c.jpg20160708_095954 by Ronald-45, on Flickr

The sides get reinforcement triangles:

28136294232_c1dcf3cec5_c.jpg20160708_101514 by Ronald-45, on Flickr

The sides are set loose against the base so that all fits nicely and straight:

I also bought some isolatuin plates 5 mm for building my landscape:

28295015196_84c7c96c82_c.jpg20160713_153424 by Ronald-45, on Flickr

I rearranged the garage so the layout can stand there to build it. Here a test on the ground if all will fit:

And on its feet:

In the background my 4 other exhibition layouts that I own.

I chose to build the layout as drawn, this is testfitting on the plywood:

And where the road will be:

After that I started this morning with the paintwork of the modules. The stuff needed:

After the paint dryed I started with the landscaping. I used at first a 8cm foam plate:

Cut to fit:

Oke, it goes on. Today I started with the pylons:

28213745740_5995e7d6d7_c.jpg20160722_162005 by Ronald-45, on Flickr

These are the parts of the Walthers kit nr 933-4552:

28213746110_71d9dd6284_c.jpg20160722_162147 by Ronald-45, on Flickr

On the back these parts have lines so that you can cut them to fit in heigth. The first pylon:

27881328643_eb7bab3fa7_c.jpg20160723_123650 by Ronald-45, on Flickr

And glued together:

27881328933_6ed9f5e421_c.jpg20160723_124457 by Ronald-45, on Flickr

On one short side it gets a sharp cornerpiece. This is not prepared for shortening so I had to cut it myself:

28419168801_59617fd64b_c.jpg20160723_134634 by Ronald-45, on Flickr

And glued:

28419168571_0c85c35e27_c.jpg20160723_134849 by Ronald-45, on Flickr

To get to the correct highth I had to shim it with a piece of 6 mm wood:

28213746270_723ce938ff_c.jpg20160723_135655 by Ronald-45, on Flickr

28213746000_4c7939c099_c.jpg20160723_140427 by Ronald-45, on Flickr

To get everything aligned correctly I glued the shoes to the bridge:

28213746220_deba1cbd7b_c.jpg20160723_140930 by Ronald-45, on Flickr

The second pylon had to be a little longer so i made a jig on a piece of wood:

27881329123_ae4b5bf51d_c.jpg20160723_141146 by Ronald-45, on Flickr

Alignement with the drawbridge:

28213746490_c6d40afbcf_c.jpg20160723_141442 by Ronald-45, on Flickr

For the bigger pylonpieces the same procedure on the piece of wood:

Send your story and pix to Joe Fugate the editor/publisher of the Model Railroad Hobbyist e-magazine. He might publish them.  He models the same ex SP line though in a basement size empire.

Thanks Ken. I will consider it.

Today I modified the bridge drive. It has as-is one microswitch provided in the pylon under the bridge. The intention is to mount the second one in one of the 2 bridge pylons. But; I don't want that, my idea is that it is better to have both under the bridge.

So, first I soldered the stuff together as per kit instructions:

For the second switch there is a mount provided in the kit that you can attach to one of the kit pylons. But I do not use these. So I used the mount, attached the microswitch up-side-down and glued it 90 degrees apart from the other switch:

Not totally straight, I did this so that the 2 small heads of the bolts 9from the mount) do not touch the large gear of the bridge:

To prove that it works a small test in the kitchen:

And a test on the layout itself. The movement is controlled by me with a small power pack, the unregular speed you hear is done by me:

I'm happy with it!

28544145522_6789115542_c.jpg20160730_145136 by Ronald-45, on Flickr

So that I can glue in the parts with the middle opening downwards:

All subassemblies ready:

Ans fit together loose (not glued):

The big moment is there; fitting it on the layout to see what it looks. And it looks very good:

And with opened swingbridge:

Everything is still not definitive glued together but I'm satisfied with the look.

Little movie overview of the layout:
