34theletterbetweenB&D
Australia installs pavement traffic lights for mobile phone-distracted pedestrians... Well that's a non-starter. Ane fule no that what is required is an app to show an alert of the crossing status as the phone operated drone approaches the hazard. And all other vital functions as well; eat, drink, piss, crap, hat, coat, leaves...

That would draw their ATTENTION!
pointstaken
Agree with kevinlms. Having been nearly knocked flying this morning by some silly bitch with a pushchair tank whilst on her mobile, a jamming signal to cancel the incessant drivel they utter is an extremely good idea. Edwin_m
This was in the news a month or so back, being adopted in Germany. http://arstechnica.co.uk/tech-policy/2016/04/german-city-led-traffic-lights-pavements-smartphone/ The above is the top hit in English while searching for the German term "Bompeln", which also brings up the wonderful headline "Bompeln fuer Smombies". Ozexpatriate
Ane fule no that what is required is an app to show an alert of the crossing status as the phone operated drone approaches the hazard. Funnily enough, that's exactly the sort of thing the 'augmented reality' applications (like Google Glass) would/could do. Or borrow one of these contraptions. RMweb Gold Joseph_Pestell Posted June 4, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 4, 2016 Frankly, anyone who can't be bothered to look up from their mobile deserves to be run over. This reflects a bit a sad court case this week where a bin lorry reversing along a narrow lane ran over a lady who was walking her dogs. The lorry driver has been found guilty by the jury (I suspect that the judge disagreed) of causing death by dangerous driving. The lady, walking in the same direction and wearing headphones to listen to the radio, never saw or heard the lorry.

The lorry driver has been found guilty by the jury (I suspect that the judge disagreed) of causing death by dangerous driving. The lady, walking in the same direction and wearing headphones to listen to the radio, never saw or heard the lorry. According to the BBC, the verdict was "causing death by careless driving" which is a much less serious offence than "causing death by dangerous driving" with lower penalties. However, as you say, it is a very sad case for all concerned. Tony

Judge Dread
A couple of nights ago I had to avoid a chap walking towards me who's attention was taken by his phone. A few seconds later, I heard behind me a very loud "clang" as this person walked into a lamp post.
