Witham Green TMD

I've been away from the modelling scene for a few years now, but having finished Uni and now married I thought it was time to return to the fold.

Witham Green is the first layout I've built and is approximately 4ft by 1ft, minus the cassette fiddle yard which I will be adding. This is an opportunity to re-learn some skills and and add my own creative touches over time.

I've been able to draw lot's of inspiration from layout topics on here which has been really helpful.

Anyway, here's some photos of where I'm up to so far.

Any time period or place or is it just for fun have you got hold of any stock yet pal

I'm mainly interested in the 1990's, with the layout very loosely based on Peterborough.I've got a few items of stock- couple of Bachmann 37's, Heljan 47 etc.

Hi Chris

Looking good so far. I know Peterborough well but I go on the GBRf shed further down the yard from Eastfield which, looks like the shed you're modelling. Shall be following along with interest.

Cheers

Marcus

Thanks Marcus. I've always wanted to build a model loosely based on Peterborough so looking forward to getting on with it.

There's a Witham Green in Boston, strangely enough it's near the river Witham! One of the termini for my Boston-Frieston tramway is close by, adjacent to the Great Northern line heading north. Best of luck in your endeavours.

Further work has been carried out this week, with the layout now wired up for DCC and the backboards in place. Many thanks to my good friend Neil Mason for his help and guidance with this.

Next set of jobs are to ensure the stock runs effectively over the trackwork, paint the backscene and make a start on the hard standing area around the shed/fuel point.

Really enjoying the process so far.

Comments are welcome!

All coming along really nicely Chris. Like the lighting in the shed and the subtle weathering on the 37.

Cheers

Marcus

Thanks Marcus, I can't take credit for the Shed, that's Mason' fantastic work.

Short update, another Brush Type 4 has joined the stable- quite like these Heljan 47's.

Here we have 245 resting alongside 200 at Witham Green TMD.

  • 4 weeks later...

Further work has taken place this week as I've made a start on ballasting the layout. It definitely went smoother than expected and I'm happy with the result. Javis extra fine ballast has been used and I'll now start to add some further detailing and weathering.

Feedback is always welcome :)
