RMweb Gold RedgateModels Posted January 17, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 17, 2017 How deep would the layout be once completed? depending on costs etc it would be nice to see this at the Mansfield Show sometime
vulcan product fan
Currently away from home, so no practical progress, the second and final section of point work is finished and ready for collection from Stephen Freeman, so hopefully in the next couple of months I should make good progress. I am slowly building up the loco stock, my current fleet is; 08 x 2 20 x 4 31 x 1 37 x 2 47 x3 56 x 1 I am also lucky in having regular visits from a mate with another 08, 47 and 56. Progress is also coming together with the wagon fleet which currently stands at about 40 units made up of HEA's and 16 Tonner's and I am also working on an engineers train that will include two Hydraulic cranes. Once I get back home I will upload some pictures of the stock. sounds great cant wait to see the stock mate .
RailwaysInMyDNA
Best of luck with this project of my once local depot. I nearly started doing this in 4mm but opted instead for Doncaster. Do you have a copy of september's BRM magazine? There is a very nice article of Shirebrook depot done in 2mm, which may be of some help to you, but I'd be willing to travel long distances to see this done in 7mm! Kind regards, Paul. RMweb Gold MarshLane Posted January 17, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 17, 2017 Ooh your beating me with Class 20s! Cannot wait to see your progress with this - Shirebrook was one depot I never saw in real life but in recent years have seen endless pictures, so looking forward to following a long! Richard Pike
How deep would the layout be once completed? depending on costs etc it would be nice to see this at the Mansfield Show sometime Hi Ian, Once finished, if a layout is ever finished ?, in exhibition format with just a small fiddle yard either end, it should be around 45' long and 4' wide. I would be very interested to attend your show, especially with it being local. It may be possible for next year. Best of luck with this project of my once local depot. I nearly started doing this in 4mm but opted instead for Doncaster. Do you have a copy of september's BRM magazine? Hi Paul, Yes I speak to Duncan quite frequently about his 2mm re creation, I also speak often with Bertie Austin whom is doing the same in P4.

Popular Post Richard Pike
To speed progress of construction of the layout I have been busy building a GJH Plasser 12 Ton Hydraulic Crane, all finished apart from needing a little light weathering. It has helped so much with progress I have actually got the Main line virtually completed. Yesterday actually got to run my first trains and apart from some fine tuning, they ran very well.

Richard Pike
Pop along if you can at the weekend Richard, will be good to chat and I can show you where we can fit you in in 2018 Hi Ian, Plan on dropping in on Sunday morning.
Richard Pike
Some of my SB loco's are virtually finished, so I thought I would share a few pictures. First up is Dapol 08075 which was allocated at SB for nearly 5 year before being withdrawn in 1981 Next up, the first of many, Heljan 20005, a Tinsley machine most of its life, it could often be found at SB working out the local pits. I purchased this next loco, a Heljan 20 in Green with the intention of repainting it Blue, but then found several photographs of 20023 running in Green at SB up until 1979. The loco was in fact thought to have been the last Disc Headcode 20 in Green, repainted in September 1979. Heljan 47165 with its Silver Grey roof was a ex Stratford machine that was transferred to Tinsley and subsequently could be found working off SB. As far as I can research 165 was not fitted with SSC so would have been used for trip working rather than on the Power Station circuits. Finally PRMRP 56073, initially this was one of the two loco's fitted with Remote control for use at Eggbrough Power Station and was assigned to Knottingley but by 1980 the Loco had been transferred to Tinsley and its sub depots. 56073 claim to fame whilst working off Shirebrook was on its first turn after coming out of Doncaster works in January 1985, spent 4 days derailed under the Bunker at Welbeck Colliery......Red faces all around.

Richard Pike
SB's 08075 and the 12 Ton Crane got to venture out onto the Fourgig East Preserved Railway at the weekends Mansfield Show.
RBE
Wow being sat right next to Fourgig I somehow managed to miss the 08 running. Gutted about that. Would be great to see the layout (SB) there next year!

Richard Pike
Sorry for no recent updates, here is the latest. All the boards are now completed, I have had to replace the fiddle yard curve boards, I originally was using the left over boards from my previous 4mm layout but they where not very stable and gave me running issues especially with the curves being quite tight for 7mm. Any way the permanent laying of the curves and fiddle yard is now under way. Next major job will be to build the actual shed, I am using 2 x Heljan Diesel depots (which rather conveniently is a copy of Shirebrook), once this is built I can lay the shed roads. On the stock front, just finished my JLTRT kit of 44008. An interesting project was the conversion of this £10 Lima Toad, into a ZXO Crane support wagon, this particular one was based at Healey Mills, so could very well have visited the SB area.
RMweb Gold RedgateModels Posted July 17, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 17, 2017 Now there's a thing, Penyghent could run on Fourgig East being preserved - wouldn't fit in the headshunt though LOL
Richard Pike
Long overdue update on Shirebrook. All the track work is complete and I have had a few running sessions I ran into a problem by the fact now the layout is homed in my loft, width of the layout is just over 4' and I couldn't reach the back of the boards to start the scenic work, so have had to strip the layout back down to enable access to the rear half of the layout. Anyhow I have made good progress over the summer and should have the main running lines back up in the next couple of weeks. Main running line trackwork. South East corner embankment. Depot approach Road. . I will upload more photographs and update soon.
