Smother the whole 27' area in baked beans, and writhe around naked in them that should satisfy the "Train Porn" urges....... it's works for me, I am sure a few others do this as well :O ? ....... don't they ?  :scratchhead:

Best regards

Craig.

Eeeeeee don't do beans but could I use spaghetti ;)

As I said previously, you can (soon) get a sound fitted BTH type 1 (class 15) for a tenner more than a silent Brush Type 2

I think you secretly want one Andy ;) the Brush Type 2 git put on hold and replaced with a second 37 pre-order :)

I've a green OO gauge Deltic on eBay at the mo and a green 40 about to go on if your interested mate?

Cheers

Love`in the weathering on the 08 Paul, look`s very well used!.

But...and i hope you don`t mind me mentioning this; the area under the front buffer might benifit from some weathering as well,(area in red)

as it jump`s out as being a bit too clean IMHO....!! :pardon:

Cheers Brian I noticed that myself before doh!!! I'll get that done tonight, one thing I haven't touch and is normally the first thing I do is the wheels but they look ok to be honest. The green one will definitely have them weathered as it'll be a very work worn.

Thanks again

Paul,

The weathering looks great.

I'm not trying to devalue what you've done but have you thought about making up some thicker vacuum pipes for the Gronk as the Dapol offerings are a bit wide of the mark and skinny!

I've got some 1.2mm copper here that I'm going to use formine, I'll make you some up when I do mine if you want ready for when you come over.

It looks good on tissue, so it will look even better in a scenic environment.

Thanks coachmann, I'm using the weathering as a distraction from deciding what to build layout wise :O

The underneath of the buffers and under frame are now weathered on the blue 08 so I'll seal that tomorrow but I thought I'd make a start on the green 08, this is going to be in a pretty rundown poor state.

I think one more layer of weathering, sealing and same again and I'll be happy with it as I don't want it to dirty.

Cheers

Paul,

What powders have you used to weather it, and (I've never done anything like this) but using a spray don't you find it blows the powered off, or is there some varnish or something already on that the powder sticks too?  (Total novice here!)

Hi Rich I use all kinds of powder but I like Carr's and pinnacle (for example this is a good one https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/252362294798

Pinnacle Pro-Effect Pigments - Exhaust Black P705 - Weathering Effects Powders)

For the chassis or bogies on other locos I paint it first with Matt black mixed with gunmetal blue I then add the powder straight to it whilst still wet, this doesn't secure the power fully but it does to a good job, same with the roof I try and give it a light coat of roof dirt then add powder but I do just use powder straight on sometimes. It's best to give it a light wipe with some baby wipes but not essential. As for sealing I've always used an airbrush as aerosols can blow some of the power off as can an airbrush, but if you spray it from about 15" away it should be ok. The Dullcoat I found worked great and I'll definitely be using it again. If powder does come off just add some more and reseal :) there's a couple of how to' son my dirty diesel thread but I'll try and do a new one whilst weathering the green 08 for you mate :)

Hope that helps and feel free to ask as many questions as possible, it's very scary at first but good thing with powders is that you can wipe off any mistakes.

Cheers

You haven't just got the muck, you have the texture as well. It looks so realistic. I can see a need for this on my steam locos, but I'm not going to attempt it 'cos I will need to restore the paint to pristine one day in order to sell things.

Thanks Coachmann it really is appreciated, it's one thing I've always tried to do even in n gauge, you can just about get away with it sometimes in 4mm but in 7mm I find just paint not enough. This was my challenge I set myself, I'm not knocking just using paints in 7mm but there's no texture or build up of grime and to me some 7mm locos look more like toys once weathered which was something that always put me off.

Hopefully I'm pulling it off (cue Andy) and I'm doing them justice, as for steam locos I'd love to have a giant a really run down one one day :)

Many thanks again.

I don't wish to urinate on your conflagration Paul, but aren't you putting the cart before the horse?

Depending on which area, ie, KX or Liverpool, you finish up modelling, don't you need the correct numbered and liveried loco's for the area?

Mike.

To be honest that's never bothered me Mike, even though I love attention to detail on my layouts, maybe when everything is up an running I'll renumber them, having said that most my locos are that dirty you can't see the members anyway :D

Cheers

Morning Paul, I'm the same with Loco Numbers, providing its a BR Number I can live with that. I've been told that my Brake Van is numbered as a 21T Hopper, but it's numbered and that's fine by me.
