sb67
Thanks Luke. As it's a yard I was going to use dummy point levers, i need to make a start on the scenery but I keep getting distracted by DCC chipping locos!
sb67
Really struggling to get on with the scenery. I cant decide weather to have a road bridge at the left hand end or use some buildings as view blockers to hide the fiddle yard entrance, it's really frustrating as this is the point that most of my layouts fail and I'm determined to see this through! sb67
Made a start on a bridge. Not sure if it's the best way of doing it but I've made the shell then will cover it with card covered with brick paper. I also started some ground work using DAS clay, think I could have done it a bit better but when it's painted and weathered I think it will look ok. sb67
Finished what will be an unloading area, hopefully with a small yard crane, I'm still not sure what buildings to put at the end. Steve.
sb67
Took the layout outside and sprayed the groundwork using some primers, Red Oxide, Grey and Black. It looked ok outside but now it's back indoors I think it looks too dark but that was only a base coat. I'll use household emulsions and washes and hopefully it'll look better. sb67
Started painting the groundwork with some household emulsion paints, I think I need to get some more colours, maybe more browns and a different grey. I think I should find a photo to try and copy as I'm just making it up. I'd like to know what people think. Steve.
sb67
Done the basic groundwork, just drybrush a few sleepers and some rust, ash and oil spills in various places then must get on with the buildings.
sb67
Done some drybrushing and just for fun had a go a some puddles, not sure if I will keep them though. Steve.
Sun VI
I think your puddles look excellent. Just a suggestion, what about one coloured green or red or whatever by the barrel end, to represent chemical spillage? First class work overall, great going. sb67
The puddles were a bit of an experiment so I wasn't sure what to do with them. The've also sunk a bit so they need topping up! I was thinking of having a small collection of dumped barrels. Steve.
DanielB
That ash ballast looks perfect. Reminds me of the state of trackwork in the late '80's. I'd say you've nailed it.
sb67
Planted my buildings, and started adding small details, my favourite bit! Got to make up some scrap, planks of wood etc. Steve.
sb67
Added a buffer stop and some clutter at the end of a siding.
sb67
Made a start on a bridge at the other end of the layout. I was really pleased with it but having taken a picture the concrete lintels look a bit iffy, not sure how I'm going to flatten them out a bit. sb67
Finished the bridge Not sure whether to leave it as half a road and place some vehicles on it or put some factory backs on there? Steve.
Diggers
Factory backs get my vote, or maybe run down housing. Whatever you decide just make it grimy
sb67
Been messing around with another idea, to have some buildings and walkways and pipes disguising the layout exit. Not really sure what to do. Steve.

RMweb Gold westerhamstation Posted November 18, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 18, 2017 Hi Steve, looking good, it's getting a nice bit of atmosphere to it. All the best Adrian
sb67
Finished a couple of factory backs on the bridge, I want to add some junk or maybe a fence in front of them next.
eastworld
So far I think this is very good. However, just a personal point of view - the windows on the Metcalfe warehouse look too white - they need toning down, specially when compared to the MRS building adjacent and the brewery building. sb67
See your point Stu. Not sure how I could have done that though. Maybe I'll try it next time. Steve.
eastworld
Perhaps a lightly applied dry brush of some murky tone might help, but I'm sure it's well down the pecking order Stu
sb67
Afarid it is especially as It is all stuck to the backscene now. I wondered if I could put a light wash over the window without blocking the glazing too much. I'll bear that in mind for the next build. I could always say the factory owners have had the windows repainted ;-) Steve.
