Alliance drops Pendolino plan as Southampton paths identified

Recommended Posts

As several have said above, there's no prospect whatsoever of MkIVs being modified to tilt at this point in their careers - to do so would make less of a sound business case (cash positive after 3 years being the TOC rule of thumb) than ordering new trains.

Open access operators have been known to order new trains (Hull Trains have done it twice now), so that would be an option.  If the cost of finance is not so good as it has been lately, then there is no shortage of 100mph+ DC and AC stock becoming available between now and 2019.

While there may obviously be some platform occupation issues at Euston, it wouldn't be very timetable friendly stopping a mainline train for a longish time at Queen's Park to detrain a full load of passengers. And difficult to see where else would be any better.

Down the WLL, maybe? Though that's rather busy now, the highest numbered platforms at Clapham might have some capacity. Would rule out AC only rolling stock though.
