D9502
Hello I am currently disposing of a relatives model railway collection. Most of it was bought in the 1970's and is of grouping (predominately GWR) and BR steam era stock. I've sold all the boxed RTR and built loco kits via secondhand dealer. I'm now looking for a dealer in secondhand 4mm kits. I vaguely remember seeing a dealer advertised in an EM Expo show guide years ago but can't find anything in the current modelling press. I've asked around friends in the finescale community but their interests are more modern. So, can anyone on RMWeb kindly suggest a trader/dealer/specialist in 4mm kits? I've been told that the manufacturers reads like a who's who of the period but unfortunately my interests are more contemporary and I don't really know much about them. The steam loco's are from Airfix, Bec, Cotswold, Craftsman, Crownline, DJH, GEM, Jamieson, Keyser, Magna Models, Mallard, NuCast, Premier, Ratio, Wills; the coach kits are from Bettabitz, BSL, Colin Waite, Comet, Ian Kirk, Jidenco, K’s, MAJ, Mallard, Mopok, Parkside, PC Models, Ratio, Roxey, Slaters, Sutherland, W&T, Westdale, whilst the wagons kits are from ABS Models, Airfix, Cambrian, Collett, Colin Ashby, Cooper Craft, D&S Models, ERG, Ian Kirk, Jidenco, K’s, Kenline, MAJ, Mallard, Maygib, Mike’s Models, Model Wagon Co., NuCast, Parkside, Peco, Ratio, Slaters, Sutherland, Three Aitch. regards Rich. 34theletterbetweenB&D
Alternatively a major club with a strong reputation for a good s/h stall at their show? Do tell us with whom you succeed in placing them, as there are several maker's names in the list that raised my pulse rate.
RMweb Premium John M Upton Posted August 31, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 31, 2017 If you have the time, a list posted here of what is available may very well elicit some decent offers from members here.
Poor Old Bruce
Plan A. - If you are anywhere near any swapmeets/toyfairs (Railway Modeller usually has a comprehensive list), go along and talk to some of the traders. They have to buy stuff in order to sell it. Plan B. - If you have a model railway shop anywhere near you, they may also be interested. Same applies. Plan C. - A model railway club could sell the items on your behalf at their exhibition for (say) 10% commission.
RMweb Premium Roger Sunderland Posted August 31, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 31, 2017 Please please put a list of the kits on here, I'm sure you would have many takers, not least me if they are something I'd need. Most of these manufacturers are no longer in existence.
RMweb Premium John M Upton Posted August 31, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 31, 2017 It's actually quite scary looking through all those kit manufacturers in that list and realising not only how many items many of these small often one man band outfits produced but also how many of them are no longer around or have been absorbed into other ranges often never to appear again. RANGERS
Agreed, I'm sure we'd all like to have a trawl through but seek Andy Y's blessing first or we'll all be expelled!

D9502
Hello Well thanks for the positive comments gents. When i was considering what to do with the RTR I considered a second hand stall at a show but for several reasons decided against it. I have the lists as spreadsheets so will ask Andy York if I could post here, its a pity there's no longer the selling part of RMWeb! Considering this isn't my expertise how can I judge what they're worth? If I compare with an online auction site for instance its not necessarily a fair representation of the value but then there's not the items to compare with in modelling magazines either. I was cautious about posting online as I didn't want to be 'ripped off' but neither did I want the exploitative prices you find on the aforementioned auction sites either..... oh the conundrum. regards Rich. RMweb Gold chris p bacon Posted August 31, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 31, 2017 ask for offers by PM. No worse than Ebay and you'll do x10 better than a trader. I do think you ought to run it by Andy Y as I'm sure he's got a new selling feature under test
DCB
The problem with kits particularly white metal loco kits is they tend to be fragile, I transport mine occasionally and despite using a lot of packing damage is frequent, both bits falling off and paint damage. This means if you do sell on Ebay or some other web based selling medium you are likely to have the model damaged in transit, which is going to lead to "Issues" Personally I would only sell locos constructed from white metal or brass kits on a buyer collects basis, that way the buyer knows what they are getting before money changes hands. Graham456
Well this might get a lot of moans from the people on here who are interested in one or two items of your list But if you want to get rid of the lot in one go try Ray Heard who is a second hand dealer who does kits based near Taunton but will travel for collections Tel 01823 480 097 Mobile 07717 278420 You can find him on the web as he organises toy fairs like newton abbott and attends shows and the pictures from the search on his name usually come up with him stood in. Front of his stand of kitbuilds

Horsetan
.....Please PM me if there's anything of interest. PM sent. Steam Age is the s/h kit trader who frequents expoEM events. Don't have any contact details immediately to hand, sorry. He's technically retired now, but turns up under his own name rather than as "Steam Age". Agree that he generally has a useful selection on offer; at the last ExpoEM Bracknell, I was mightily relieved to see he still had an untouched Crownline/PDK BR Std.3 tank kit, so I quickly snapped that one up.
