swiftbeam
Hi, Can anybody tell me if I'm wasting my time looking for a new ( in a shop ) 00 Heljan Class 35 in two tone green with small yellow ends? I'm thinking They are long gone? Did they ever come in 21 Pin, or just 8? Thanks. Edited October 6, 2017 by swiftbeam
Kelly
There might be one lurking on a shelf somewhere, but I rather doubt it. eBay/Hattons/Rails probably your best bet really. If they're anything like the 33/47, then they'll be 8pin, unless any came with sound, which would be 21pin.
swiftbeam
Hi, If I were to buy a good 8 pin loco, can I at some point fit sound, i.e, can it be converted to 21 pin, or would it involve a whole 'hard to get' PCB etc making it a non-starter? What sound unit is generally considered the best, Olivia's, The Sound Guy etc. I'm ready to buy, just need to know what direction to take. Thanks. You can have your sound installed in a decoder with an 8 pin plug. If you go down the Howes route just specify 8 pin and the fact that it is for the Heljan version. Kelly
Charlie of DC Kits/Legoman sounds will probably be able to assist/help with sound. A lot of model places that specialise in DCC can do sound conversions for you. Even if you got an original sound 35 (where there any?), you wouldn't be able to change the sounds, so getting one from somewhere like Howes of DC Kits allows you to have a custom sound. Check youtube as I know Legomanbiffo has posted videos of some of the sound chips he's done.
swiftbeam
Awesome guys, thank you. I'll get a good running 8 pin loco and get good sounds sorted at latter point :-)
Trains4U
In the absence of a class 35 sound file from my supplier (SWD) They have kindly altered a Western to have a single engine startup. Not perfect, but my customer was happy! 8-pin sound decoders are widely available.
JSpencer
My class 35 has been sound fitted with an 8 pin decoder. No issues to report, quite a reliable loco.

SRman
Mine came from the very first batch of Hymeks Heljan released, and has a Howes ESU LokSound v3.5 decoder with two speakers in parallel installed (8-pin). I am very happy with the whole combination and have never seen the need to update the sound in this one, although I did buy a set of the newer plated wheels from Howes to replace the original brass ones. An alternative to the newer wheels from Heljan/Howes is to source black beetle wheels from Branchlines or DC Kits, available in OO/EM and P4 versions, with live axle (one wheel insulated) or both insulated. (Branchlines also do split wheels for converting the Bachmann DMU/EMU power bogies).

D7100
Hattons are showing five new versions including a tops version in railfreight in there news section. Just in case anyone is looking for one, iirc the other 4 versions have been done before None of these have been done before. All the livery's, except the dutch (not railfreight) have. You can tell by the Heljan serial no's which lead on from the previous batch. Thanks for the heads up though.
RMweb Gold Phil Bullock Posted June 28, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 28, 2018 You won't go wrong with the Howes file on an 8 pin chip in a hymek....see hydraulic heaven video via link in signature below Phil
37081LochLong
A few people I know have noticed an odd thing... why are all the new Hymeks the same price except the BR blue one which is more expensive? Surely it's the most simple to produce with less colours?
