All my early efforts were painted Humbrol 67 Panzer grey. I still can barely tell the difference 35 years later. I'd heard of Precision Paints back then, but there was nowhere that stocked it within cycling distance of home!

A new arrival will be on duty at Derwent soon once conditions are right for painting. I got, cheap on eBay, a Stevenson kit of a D526 Composite Brake Motor Carriage of 1907 or there abouts. It will make a change from the LMS version for the 10 min run to Millers Dale.

It's paired with a Ratio Low Rooved All Third Suburban as I don't think anything else is available .

I did wonder who beat me to that coach on ebay. I keep hoping another one goes up I've missed two in the last 18 months now. I have to say it does look very good Jonathan.

Regards Lez.

Hi Lez, sorry about that (no I'm not!!) Stevenson's Coaches are now done by Squires Tools. They do a Clayton Brake Third but I would need a full third possibly two as I've seen photos of the Millers Dale motor train with three carriages. They also have a Clayton Brake Third Motor Carriage too in the range which is very tempting. I'm also minded to convert one of my Ratio Suburban Brake Thirds to a Motor Carriage as there's a grainy photo on the back of Bentley's Scenes from the Past 7 of one entering Buxton station in c1933. But would 4 motor trains be too many?

To finish off the build of a GWR 04 wagon transfers were applied. I used the number and weight ones that came with the kit. They were put on top of a coat of gloss clear varnish. The G and W are HMRS Pressfix which are a little tall. A coat of matt varnish followed. A bit of weathering required then it can go into service as my first foreigner.

Back to things MR/LMS. The Clayton Motor-fitted carriage is nearing completion. I've Vol 2 of Midland Railway Carriages coming soon to see if additional details need adding before I glue the roof in place and put it into service.

You've done an excellent job on the driving coach Jonathan. Very nice indeed.

Regards Lez.

Thanks, Lez. It's not finished yet as I am waiting for Midland Railway Carriages vol 2 to arrive to see if there're any photos, diagrams or information about these carriages and whether I need to add additional detail. I doubt any would have lasted to exist in my time period but there's Rule 1.

BTW the kit came with Maunsell wheels and I wondered why I couldn't rail the bogies - there're EM gauge! Any use to you?

This was one of the first RMWeb threads that I read through for inspiration when I first got back into railway modelling, I've been following it (and occasionally making a relevant observation, all right, maybe once!) ever since.

Very humbled to know that I'm a source of inspiration, Rob. It's 71 posts so far!  Whether all are relevant is another matter though!

Your layout is coming along very nicely.
