MrWolf
Roadrunner? Beep! Beep! Pretty much everything else has been hotrodded over the years, why not model trains? I'm looking forward to seeing what my cobbled together Beyer Peacock 0-4-4 will be capable of. 1

RMweb Gold Rowsley17D Posted June 14, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 14, 2022 Half an hour after getting off a service train at Kirkby Stephen I caught 35018 British India Line heading for Carlisle. No diesel on the rear either.

MrWolf
Btw, is that layout based on a real location? It puts me in mind of the Ingleton branch in some ways.
Portchullin Tatty
Oh, I recognise that!!! Fair few of my hours have gone into it. Very keen to see how the layout develops. I'll let you explain what the layout is of unless you want me to spill the beans....... Mark

It's P4. 1
MrWolf
A fine excuse to run pre grouping Scottish locos and stock? That would definitely get my attention.

That would definitely get my attention. The group offered a variety of helpful and unhelpful suggestions. It is hoped to exhibit the layout in its current form when complete with the present fiddle yard but when it is at home there could be pivoted storage boards at each end. I think it will be initially green diesels, as this is what the owner has. Edited June 15, 2022 by Rowsley17D 1
RMweb Premium Physicsman Posted June 16, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 16, 2022 Bit late to the party but those views at Kirkby Stephen look a bit familiar. As do the threatening clouds! That's a good looking modular layout, with an interesting viaduct, you were working on. J.
RMweb Gold Rowsley17D Posted June 21, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 21, 2022 At long last I now have a dedicated Programming Track. It's the dead-end siding off the storage yard turntable. Its droppers were disconnected from the main bus and wired via a DPDT switch which was installed on the control panel. Back on the layout an ex-Midland motor train is shunted into the bay ready for its next working.

RMweb Gold Popular Post Rowsley17D Posted June 23, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted June 23, 2022 Just a brief health update. I saw a consultant liver surgeon specialising in keyhole surgery yesterday who said the liver tumour is operable, so that's what I am going for hopefully sometime in July, so he's not messing about. It will be quite a major op due to the position of the tumour but I hope to in hospital for only about 5 days. Depending on histology, I might need chemo as a follow-up. My wife did ask the "do nothing" question and he said survival beyond 3 years was 5% and zero beyond 5 years. Quite sobering.
RMweb Gold Regularity Posted June 23, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 23, 2022 The liver is, given time, able to regenerate itself, so as long as the there is enough of it which is not infected, and as long as the tumour hasn’t metastasised, then the prognosis is good, but not hanging about is the order of the day! 1 1
RMweb Gold lezz01 Posted June 23, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 23, 2022 (edited) That's good news really Jonathan. The liver is one of very few organs in the body that will regenerate as Regularity says. The only other one I can think of is the olfactory nerve. Speed is essential in these maters, as long as there is around 1/3 to 1/2 of the liver left it should regenerate. I wish you all the best in your opp and pray that HE holds his hand over you. Regards Lez. Edited June 23, 2022 by lezz01 1

RMweb Gold Popular Post Rowsley17D Posted June 27, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted June 27, 2022 Received pre-op assessment appointment for Thursday this week and cardio-vascular test 5th July. In the meantime I am taking a daily walk and lowing carbs in preparation for the op. Back on the layout I have been weathering the turntable. the rails sides have been rusted, soot weathering powder brushed into the deck and brown brushed into the pit. Some clear gloss varnish has been dotted along side the rails to represent discharges from the engines' injectors, although it looks grey in the second photo below. 17
RMweb Gold Popular Post Rowsley17D Posted June 29, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted June 29, 2022 (edited) After living at our current home for over 2 years we decided to have part of the afternoon visiting Ribblehead viaduct about 9.5 miles away. It was part of a reccy for when our grandson comes to visit for a few days in his summer holidays. We had a good mug of tea and a protein bar (have to try and keep off cakes pre-op even though they looked delicious) in the station cafe. Managed to get the 13.40 from Carlisle going over the viaduct. MrWolf
Excellent photos, it's really hard to appreciate the scale of it unless you've been there. I can recommend the bacon and egg butties from the van by the old navvy camp. 😋 3
