brianusa
4.7? Earthquake? You should live on the Pacific coast of the USA. We have earthquakes! Brian.
wombatofludham
Well the door just dropped off my 20+year old washing machine. I wonder if I can claim for it off the house insurance as earthquake damage?

rob D2
Damn right Brian , I've done two in LA. Awake at 6 am reading a book , headboard starts banging on the wall, all the hangars in the wardrobe swaying and banging . I thought I was in " poltergeist " to be honest
jonny777
Earthquake one-upmanship? No, I think I will pass on that. 4.7 (since downgraded to 4.4) is more than enough for me.
RMweb Gold Colin_McLeod Posted February 18, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 18, 2018 Reportedly felt in Cork, Ireland but the newsreader was having obvious difficulty keeping a straight face.
Ceptic
I'm off to check the depth of a local (round the corner) road's pot-hole. I'm sure it's got bigger since yesterday.
RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted February 18, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 18, 2018 I see on the USGS site that one person locally has reported 'feeling' the South Wales 'quake - at a distance of 197 kilometres!
Co-tr-Paul
Didn't feel a thing. I was however being pulled by 2 37s on the S&C in a comfy mk1 at the time..... !
Ozexpatriate
I was in San Francisco the week before the big earthquake in October 1989. I was in the South Bay at the time, in Milpitas I think. Frankly, it was terrifying - in a hotel ballroom surrounded by glass light fixtures exploding as they hit the floor sending shards of glass everywhere, wondering all the while if the the floors above will follow the light fixtures. Living in California for five years or so, I experienced many earthquakes, and some here in the Northwest as well, but the 1989 Loma Prieta quake was the worst by far. I have a colleague who lives near the epicenter. He wasn't home at the time, but his wife was. She was literally thrown around by the walls of her house. One day we will experience an event here like the Fukushima earthquake and tsunami of 2011 - comparable geological forces are at work here. I hope that day is still far off. RMweb Gold Re6/6 Posted February 19, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 19, 2018 Whilst travelling home by train from Athens when approaching Skopje Yugoslavia (now in present day Macedonia) l got caught up in the 'quake of 1963. Very frightening with an awful loss of life.
RMweb Premium Reorte Posted February 19, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 19, 2018 Not that one, the only one I've ever felt was the Dudley one several years back, which was very noticable in Manchester. It wasn't big enough to be anything more than interesting (my brother, a geologist, was rather jealous that I'd felt an earthquake, even a small one).
