w124bob
I'm rather fond of the humble 0-6-0, in its various MR/LMS incarnations having weathered several recently for both myself and friends. However I now have a J15 on my desk along with a copy of "J15's Remembered", the owner has requested a light weathering job which is part completed. The problem is I'm absolutely capitvated by this little engine and it's superb running, to the point where one is now winging it's way to me along with a pair of maroon Gresley suburbans, oh dear! It doesn't fit in with my Gloucesterish Midland terminus or Barnwood based roster, but you know, rule 1 applies. I'll post piccies of both locos pottering around awell known club layout soon. I blame Buckjumper and thank goodness it's only OO.
MarkSG
I agree, an inside-cylinder 0-6-0 hauling a mixed goods is probably the quintessential British steam train. My Bachmann Midland 3F is one of the favourite locos on my roster. I hadn't previously considered a J15 either, for the same reason - it's outside my current primary focus. But I'm now wondering whether it might be the ideal companion to the pair of Rapido J70s I've ordered - if I model the "downstream" end of the W&U, where it meets the main line, then there's obviously scope to run both on the same layout. But that's more expense, and turns what I'd intended as a small side project into something potentially larger. I might also need to add suitable passenger rolling stock to what was originally intended as a very simple goods-only shunting plank, too. Hmmm. Choices, choices. Maybe if I can find a way to shoehorn in a Peckett or a Barclay, as well
Steamport Southport
Snap! I also picked one up as it was reasonably priced. Then MR announced the J70 and now I'm considering a small layout for them. Then a G5, N7, D16, B12, B17, etc. Jason
gordon s
Totally agree Bob. One of my favourite loco's. A very smooth runner and currently being run as a track test mule on my everlasting build of Eastwood Town. You know it makes sense, so go for it. Welcome to the dark side... PaulG
Just need someone to produce a suitable GER freight loco such as a J19 or J20. The Hornby B12 tender with minor changes will do.
34theletterbetweenB&D
In the meantime there's another RTR option, a handsome pregroup goods design in the form of the Robinson 2-8-0, a group of which were allocated to March by the LNER.
w124bob
I doubt any further ER locos will join my roster but should a Johnson 2F be released then thats a whole other story. I have close associations with the Coalville line and family history around Glenfield.
RMweb Gold tomparryharry Posted April 13, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 13, 2018 You should look up the Gloucester, Oxford & East Suffolk Railway. The GOES turned out some lovely locomotives. Naturally, they go very well... Tootle Pip! Ian.
