House building continues…

Darius,

Are you keeping the building separate or assembling them into a single one-piece unit? I'd imagine the latter would make 'hiding the joins' a little easier?

Hi Ian,

The whole installation in the corner of the shed is designed to be removable so we can swap it with different “scenic corners”.  To that end the terraced houses will be fixed together in groups of three pairs that drop into place in a shallow “well” between the raised pavement at the front and cobbled alley at the back.

That’s the plan at the moment anyway…

Cheers

Hi Ian.  Yes we do but first we have sealed the 2mm card hardstanding with some diluted pva.  Once that has dried and the hard stand painted, the gaps will be ballasted.

Plus the track and ballast will have the oily gunk treatment - once we figure out how…

Cheers

Darius

Hattons do a oily track gunk weathering type kit that I’ve seen both Everard Junction and Dean Park use to good effect.
Sorry about the delayed response, only just come across this thread. Your build looks fantastic!

Cheers.
Bill.

Shouldn't there be at least one legacy outside khazi somewhere? We need to consider the cars too? We need a couple of beaten up ones too.

Il’l look into that as well - so to speak…

Don’t think Modelu has a Grandad on the khazi figure in their range yet..?

Cheers

My friend and layout-building partner, Mark, has been busy soldering power connectors to the track in the tunnel section of the lower scenic level.

The shed has primary power bus bars fixed to the walls around the internal perimeter.  These feed secondary busses in the form of the self-adhesive copper tape strips seen in the photos above.  Each track length is fed of these secondary busses or the primary bus.

As these tracks will be hidden the wiring can be visible.

Cheers

At the far end of the shed the scenic levels cease to be scenic and pass behind a workdesk.  The baseboards to the lower of the two scenic levels have now been constructed and track laid.

The two photos above show the extent of what will be the scenic part of the layout with the tracks passing through a rocky cutting before entering a tunnel portal before the tracks curve round into the non-scenic part behind the desk.

The white patches beneath the track in the above two photos are where it transitions from Code 75 Bullhead to Code 100.  Because the code 100 sleepers are deeper, cardboard “ramps” have been installed beneath the code 75 track.

The tracks currently terminate at the abutments for what will be lift-out double track “bridges” that span across the door opening to the shed.   There will be two bridges: one for the lower double track; and one for the upper level double track, which is yet to be constructed.

The Mk3 coaches and Railway Gun were used to ensure there are no clashes between stock and anything else when trains transit the curves.

there strangely is a real car similar to the above based here in South Normanton (Alfreton) with music bellowing out the speaker which makes you smile as it passes. Must get a photo! spooky seeing it here as a model. Peter
