georgeT
Started to do some scenery on 'Grundy Street', as the new wall cupboards in the bedroom were protected with a sort of cling film it proved to be a good filler for the banks just masking taped over them and added a small amount of polly filler to finish, then made up some dark earth colour from various Tamiya paint pots, l have decided to make 'GS' run down so there will be lots of long grass and weeds needed and l have bought various lengths and colours of static grass to play with, the earth colour is right up to the track edge as the ballast will lay on the top. The control panel had to be moved to allow the scenery to be built, also l made a shelf on the top for uncoupling pens etc etc...l am surprised at myself as l did not think l would get this far with 'GS' l thought l would have scrapped it by now Hahaha, its all a bit messy and untidy at the moment but you get the picture....

Andrew P
DON'T FORGET, to paint the Rail sides BEFORE Ballasting mate, very important.
georgeT
Hello Mate, l NEVER paint my rails as l prefer to lightly dust with the airbrush when all the ballasting is done ? ...
81A Oldoak
I paint after ballasting and then finish with a dusting of weathering powders.
Jintyman
DON'T FORGET, to paint the Rail sides BEFORE Ballasting mate, very important. Do you know what, I thought I was odd ball (quiet in the corner Mr P!!!), as I've always laid the ballast, then painted the rail sides with a diluted mix of rail grime and let it run down onto the chairs. then once that lot was dry, I attach gently with the airbrush, again with a bit of rail grime, just to tone the ballast/sleepers around the rail base. At least I' not the only one then. I always kept quiet because I did it differently from the 'norm'. Jinty
georgeT
Thanks Guys some nice examples there as l say l think what ruins a layout for me is when they over do painting the rail sides normally in some sort of brown IMHO totally spoiled, l ballast then when its dry run the airbrush loaded with a suitable colour which matches the weathering you have done on your locos and stock, just my opinion
georgeT
Well the ballasting has started and l am going to try and do a foot at a time and take my time, don't worry about the awful light green colour on the ground l just added some acrylic paint to the filler, l will paint it dark brownish when l get some, also bought a nice transit van for the bridge, l did not paint the track by the way it's a piece of old track that Mark gave me...
georgeT
Need a few colour light signals for GS so had a good look on the internet and was shocked l couldn't find any O gauge two aspect signals under £60, so out came lots of scrap brass and old LEDs to make my own so here goes.....out came some 4mm brass tube and some 3mm LEDs, so let battle commence, first l cut some bases and drilled a 4mm hole to accept the signal, then cut the plate for the lights, in this prototype l have have used plastic tube for the shades but they will be replaced by brass from now on, l have got some Peco ladders from another project and some switches, first test are very encouraging ?
