RMweb Gold Popular Post rodent279 Posted January 23, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 23, 2019 (edited) March 1980, and 25178 is caught running through Leighton Buzzard on the Up Slow. On the 1st & 8th April 1984, no electric trains ran into or out of Euston as far as Willesden (apart from the DC), due to power being off. As a result, trains were diesel hauled out of Euston, and a variety of motive power was used. Here, 25236 backs on to it's train at Euston, on 8th April. In a scene that could be recreated today, now preserved 25059 had 86259, also preserved today, in tow on the 1000 Euston-Wolverhampton. 86259 was one of the first AC electrics to receive a Brecknell-Willis high speed pantograph, along with 87012 and, I think, 87006. Fast forward 4 1/2 years, and 25059 is now in preservation on the KWVR, where it has remained ever since. Here, it stands outside Keighley station, as 24054 rolls down the hill with a train from Oxenhope, during the diesel gala of 5th November 1988. Johann Marsbar
Could they have been off the Birmingham-Yarmouth Summer Saturdays-only train? Having dug out the July 1977 copy of the Ipswich Transport Journal, that pair had worked the Derby to Yarmouth service that day. There were a different pair on the Walsall-Yarmouth one! (which I didn't bother to photograph).

RMweb Gold rodent279 Posted February 2, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 2, 2019 (edited) 25185 was based on the Paignton & Dartmouth Steam Railway from entering preservation in 1988, until October 2018. I t was swapped for D6975 on the SDR, as the class 37 was deemed more suitable for the P&DSR summer loads. 25185 is seen here on it's new home, with long term SDR resident 25262, at Staverton Bridge, during the SDR diesel gala, 5th November 2018. RMweb Gold rodent279 Posted February 3, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 3, 2019 (edited) Still for me one the finest rats I've seen in preservation, 25313 stands at Corwen waiting for its next turn. Love that scruffy genuine BR blue! 11.10.2003, Llangollen diesel gala. Another favourite, again in a genuine BR blue, was 265, seen here leaving Quorn, 22.05.1999. Sidelined for around 10 years now, it would be nice to see this one back in action. Edited February 3, 2019 by rodent279 11

RMweb Gold rodent279 Posted February 3, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 3, 2019 Jumping back in time nearly 20 years, 25191 backs onto the Moorlander Pullman rake at Grosmont. 10 years into its preservation career and 191 is already starting to look a little careworn. It survived another 2 years in traffic, being sidelined at the end of the 2001 season. It stood for many years in the headshunt at Grosmont shed, looking terribly reminiscent of D7029, until rescued and taken to the SDR in 2013(?). It is now in the final stages of restoration. 25191 draws forward into the tunnel, from where it will reverse the stock back into the platform road.
