RMweb Gold toboldlygo Posted April 28, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 28, 2019 (edited) As I am now doing so many varied commissions, I decide to start up my own dedicated thread for them, rather than clutter up other threads with in Works photo's - just the finished product. In this thread (hopefully), I'll be showing progress on the various (and numerous) projects I have on the go. I'll still be doing blog entries of course. The entire catalogue of my blog entries can be found here: Blog Index In the meantime there's been some more progress on the Timber Tracks Coal Stage. I've got it as far as I can on it for now. The client it's for popped in this morning to drop off some parts for commissions (I have in prep for him) and was blown away by it. Always welcome and I'll keep the mint sauce locked safely away In the meantime another loco is going through the weathering process... .. it's a somewhat different approach (yes she's stripey to begin with) and I'll leave the satin varnish off next time I do this stage on another loco. I've cleaned it back, to get rid of the dirt in most places to give a clean in service look. Before returning her to the spray booth for further treatment. More to come later today. 5

RMweb Gold toboldlygo Posted May 2, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 2, 2019 A finished King, waiting for dispatch back to her owner.. And painting has started on the coaling stage.. 5
RMweb Gold toboldlygo Posted May 5, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 5, 2019 More work on the coaling stage and a few new arrivals.. Railmatch light brick dry brushing complete... Exterior randomly dry brushed with Railmatch Dark brick and interior walls roughly painted with Railmatch White. Still much to do painting wise. New arrivals.. My winnings for the RMWeb Gold April Prize draw.. And a well judged bid on a certain auction site for one of these beautiful kits..
RMweb Gold toboldlygo Posted May 6, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 6, 2019 Some watery going's on in the Shipyard side of things today... Started on my Ship commission - Revell's 1/72nd Flower Class Corvette HMCS Snowberry.. A very full box (I have bought a few aftermarket bits as well) Thought I'd better get the stand built first - went together straight forwardly. Starboard side of the hull glued together, need some cleaning up to get a good fit. While the two parts of the Port side of the hull are drying after being glued together, I busied myself fitting the glazing for the port holes. The coal stage I'm also working on gives a sense of how big the ship is.. More to come later.
RMweb Gold toboldlygo Posted May 6, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 6, 2019 As good as my word.. Adding the remaining 23 port holes... Putting the hull halves together (not for the faint of heart & Mr M Grips comes to assist).. Sitting right-side up and adding the hull supports (which need beefing up) 6mm Styrene H section* was used to beef the supports up & the fore deck section added.. More to come. *Go big or go home

I'm not recreating the Cruel Sea Yesterday before work, I removed all the tape and pegs and started clean up on the hull, she'll need some filler - but no where near as much as I was led to believe. Today I removed all the planking detail from the aft deck (Snowberry had steel plate deck predominately) and then glued it into place & added the supports (all 31 of them). Including the additional reinforcing - part count used is 96 (101 if I include the stand) Edited May 9, 2019 by toboldlygo to add text

Many thanks @B15nac for showing the loco's I've done for you in their natural habitat. In the meantime part one of the Flower Class build draws to a close (back to railway stuff tomorrow).. Building the engine room - which needed some adjustment (a few mill off the top deck) A useful guide.. As stated in a previous post Snowberry doesn't haven't much wood decking, so I've started removing it where necessary and tweaking the fit of the hull to the deck.. Got her to the point I wanted to. Still a lot of filling to do, but that's for a few weeks time. Edited May 9, 2019 by toboldlygo edit link

Hopefully the one I'm building will inspire you to get on with your's. I gave the Corvette a clean with Meth's this morning, to get all the glue residue off the hull from the tape I'd used during the assembly.. RMweb Gold toboldlygo Posted May 10, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 10, 2019 I did promise something railway related, didn't I? Finally after what seems like eternity, the replacement plates arrived for Princess Alexandria.. I also had an elderly model aircraft, down for dusting... It's the AMT/ERTL 1/72nd B-52H from the 1990's btw and quite possibly the only B-52 to be built at BAE Dunsfold
RMweb Gold toboldlygo Posted May 11, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 11, 2019 Amused myself today, with more hand painting work on the Timber Tracks Coaling Stage... Should get the interior weathered & glazing in tomorrow.
RMweb Gold toboldlygo Posted May 12, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 12, 2019 (edited) So I decided today, that I'd have a day off from commissions and do something a bit different (in between gardening and cooking the Roast dinner). I have a couple of Airfix 'Vintage Classics' kits in my stash, so I took the plunge to build one of them... ...and was pleasantly surprised of how good a kit it was to build. With the age of the kit, I was expecting flash and mismatches, but there weren't any mismatches and minimum flash.. .. so the kit goes together very quickly.. Ensuring the main body fits together, with the outer sections.. I'm not bothered about moving tracks, so they've been glued into place (heat welding them is a faff and doesn't always work). 49 parts later HMS Dragonfly is built (okay the rear assembly isn't attached - that will be done after painting) Incidentally that assembly had the most flash.. Not bad for a couple of hours work Edited May 12, 2019 by toboldlygo to add text 7
laurenceb
I get the impressionthat Airfix have done a lot of work on the tools. I bought a HMS Belfast a few years ago and it was practically unbuildable. Got another recently and there is a vast improvement.
