CME and Bottlewasher
Hi Brian Can I ask please what are the military vehicles on the warflat and what is their origin? Ian Hi Ian, I think Brian told me that they are white-metal kits, nice arnt they! ATVB CME
Pete Harvey
The vehicle type are of the now defunked Saxon Armored Car that was scraped in the late 90's mid 00's they are nice models but Brian needs to warm the tyres to give them the Sag effect.
Ian G
Nice kit I think a real wooden deck would be good, as for the tyres many can be found on the military modelling websites. Ian G
brian daniels
Here is a link to a page a long way back in this thread http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/1458-brians-7mm-diesel-workbench-judith-edge-sentinel-0-6-0-shunter/page-5 that has the military vehicles from ASAM Models http://www.asam.co.uk/ One little problem I have had is that a couple of the rubber tyres on these Saxons have split. I wonder if I superglue them onto the rims that would hold everything together over the years? Edited August 11, 2015 by brian daniels
bobster
Be careful Brian, Superglue may discolour or degrade the rubber (I have had this happen on rubber and plastic) - Military modellers also rub down the mould line in the centre of the tyres - Now if only we modelled in 1/24th Scale Cheers, Bob. CME and Bottlewasher
Hi Ian, I think Brian told me that they are white-metal kits, nice arnt they! ATVB CME Sorry I thought that you were on about the models and not the prototype LOL The vehicle type are of the now defunked Saxon Armored Car that was scraped in the late 90's mid 00's they are nice models but Brian needs to warm the tyres to give them the Sag effect. See above LOL Be careful Brian, Superglue may discolour or degrade the rubber (I have had this happen on rubber and plastic) - Military modellers also rub down the mould line in the centre of the tyres - Now if only we modelled in 1/24th Scale Cheers, Bob. If a resin based cyano eg Fixal is used then it should work fine on rubber, make sure that it and and any zapper used is/are anti-bloom though. brian daniels
Got a bit of primer on the Warflat body today and finished one of the bogies as well with the brakes now soldered on. I can't put the brakes or the axlebox ends on as there are none in the kit! The etched fret just does not have enough bits on it. I think the person that made the kit forgot how to count!
Ian G
Brian In your vast collection of photos do you have any ex warflats with a vacuum pipe on the outside convered to other uses? Ian G
brian daniels
Àfraid not Ian, the only ones I have are what I took at the Swindon and Cricklade the other day to help me make this. By the way it is now a nice dark green colour.
brian daniels
Seeing as I had to weather the Heljan Warship I thought I would add a bit more to my DJH 47370. I was running my JLTRT 25202 and 37193 in the garden earlier this week with weathering and sound and they looked brilliant going round but 47370 has sound but the lack of a bit harder weathering made it stand out too much. So it just had to be done. I still need some oil bits on it here and there though. Picture of it before and after. Is it me or does weathering always look better in the flesh rather in pictures?
brian daniels
Ok do you think you could do 47277 or 47373 with these amber beacons I got hold of for the Sentinel? Warflat has got the paint on it and I am getting Rail-Tec to do the transfers.
ozzyo
Hello Brian, I think that it would look better with a bit more weathering on it. What are the front end jumper cables on 47370 for please. OzzyO.
brian daniels
I still need to a bit of dry brushing and oil stains on the 47 but I might do a finer spray of the brown on parts. It looks a lot different in the flesh than in a picture for some reason. Those RCH jumper cables that were on 47370 and 47379 was the first experiment into TDM multiple working that now is standard on trains with a loco and DVT at the other end. I think that the first time that I seen them was up in Scotland on the 47/7s that is what confused me (not that it takes a lot nowadays). OzzyO. brian daniels
I have been doing a bit of transfer work on four projects and then waiting to get them all done so I could varnish them all together. I have detailed this Heljan 47 body for a friend by making one end flush and using DJH lights in it. The headlights are also DJH. I used a Shawplan headcode etch the other end. The ariel and boiler blank are from MMP. I have had this wagon built a long time but have only got the transfers on! The base transfers are from CCT, the Rugby Cement and the words Presflo are from M&M and the CPV and yellow data panel are Fox. The rivets on the Rugby Cement panel are from Archer. Finally got the Rail-Tec transfers on the Warflat. Transfers added to the Pete Harvey containers from Precision Transfers. At Telford I bought a Shark plough van from PRMRP to go with the soon to be released Heljan Dogfish and Catfish. I have just added all the handrails and then filed them off on the inside as I would like to add some planking on the inside of the verandas. I also bought a PRMRP Sealion kit at Telford to go with my forthcoming ballast train and a Mercian Models PWM diesel shunter to pull all this lot in an occupation in the garden. brian daniels
How are you finding the PRMRP kits, instruction-wise? I find them ok Jeff, better than the ones for the Warflat and that was the thin end of £100!

Lovely Brian. Yes, I have come to the conclusion that weathering looks different in photos, then factor in different types of computer screens.....its what looks right to you that matters. Dont over egg the pudding, the weathering looks pretty good to me. I have always thought that your weathering looks fine as it is - not wishing to sound sychophantic though. Cracking work - I am tempted by the PRMRP kit too, yet I still have too many kits to do - mine isnt finished yet anyway as t'other side still isnt detailed and weathered - now I have to match it all up! brian daniels
Better give an up-date. After Telford I went to Norway and Sweden for 8 days travelling by train. Well that was the plan but the cunning Norwegions had other ideas and replaced the train from Trondheim to Bodo with a 10 hour bus ride! so we flew in under an hour. Did the line from Narvik right down to Stockholm, bit of a long journey that one! Picture below from the train after crossing into Sweden from Narvik, thankfully the weather and the trees where spot on. Anyway now I am home I have been doing a bit more to the Shark. I added some square section to the top to give it a bit more strength. I will add some more square section to the verandah pillars as they are a bit flat as an etch. On the instructions it tells you to add the handbrake etch on the V hangers shaft pointing the other way and sitting outside of the centre V hanger, this is wrong, it goes like I put it.
