The holding sidings are full of stabled units, Parcels stock & loco's as is usual for a sunday. Over at the station, The 1325 InterCity service to London Euston waits time at Platform 4 hauled by 47535 with it's train formed of a Wembley based Mark 3 set It is then seeing departing signalled for the Wolverhampton line Next the Margam to Dee Marsh steel train is seen approaching the centre road where a Crew change will take place before the train goes forward with 56005 in charge Finally Greater Manchester PTE liveried 150133 arrives at Platform 7b with a terminating service from Chester, the latest unit to enter service at Shrewford... 1977joey
Afternoon Everyone. This mornings 0943 to Cardiff Central ex Manchester Piccadilly got delayed at Crewe due to the failure of 33030 which was in charge. Railfreight 47018 came to the rescue & the train is seen here approaching Shrewford's platform 7. Unfortunately there is no heating to the Mark 1 stock for the onward journey to Cardiff, but at least the train isn't cancelled... The train departs Shrewford running over 30 minutes late Ticking over at Platform 5 is a 3 car Class 101 on the Wolverhampton local Cheers for now, Mark

1977joey
Hi Everyone, Thought I'd share some pictures of a running sesh earlier as it's been a while since I posted on here showing a loco hauled service & a few DMU's... A Class 47 hauled service pauses at Platform 7 on a Bangor to Cardiff working When they become available, I'm thinking of replacing some of my loco hauled workings on the Marches line with Class 158's as I was really impressed by the look of the Regional Railways version, I best start trying to save 😵 Next A Class 122 coupled to a 101 makes up a 3 car set & is ticking over at Platform 5 on a 'MIDLINE' service to Wolverhampton Later another Class 101, this time a mixed Network SouthEast livery/Blue/Grey set approaches Platform 3 on a terminating 'MIDLINE' service from Wolverhampton And finally, 3 Car hybrid Sprinter 150148 arrives at Platform 7 with a Terminating service from Chester Cheers for now, Mark
1977joey
Hi Everyone some more pics from earlier. A Class 31 arrives for a Crew change in the centre road on some empty wagons bound for Bescot, then is seen making it's departure... Next at Platform 4b, a 2 Car Class 101 has arrived ECS to form the 1219 service to Chester The 12:10 Arrival from Cardiff is running late, & is seen approaching Platform 6 to terminate at Shrewford It pulls up next to Sprinter 150127 on the 1230 Aberystwyth to Wolverhampton And finally 'The Welshman/Y Cymro' Holyhead to Cardiff arrives behind 47535 for it's departure from Shrewford at 1222 with it's motely collection of air con & None air con Mark 2 coaching stock And then is seen departing Cheers for now, Mark 15

Really love your “Marches Line” layout. Haha! Many thanks Nigel, I'm glad you like it. The N Gauge 158's are still a few months away yet, so it'll give me chance to save & also see what loco's I don't use so much & coaches I may sell to fund them. I'm hoping Dapol will re release the Provincial Class 156 too which would go nicely with the 158's. They did operate the marches line too when there was issues with the Class 155's for a time. We'll see... Cheers, Mark
1977joey
Evening Everyone, This will most likely be my last post of this year. My Class 33 has now been sold & it's replacement has arrived today in the shape of 31423 'Jerome K, Jerome' in it's BR Mainline livery. Really lovely loco it is too & I really like this livery! I've still got enough 'Banger Blue' loco's in my collection for the needs of the layout, but a splash of colour is always great! Here it is arriving at Shrewford with the 1452 Regional Railways service to Manchester Piccadilly (Ex Cardiff) and is seen approaching Platform 4 In The meantime, wishing everyone a Happy & Healthy New Year 😀 Cheers, Mark
scruff
oh no! what no 33's to bash on the Crewe -Cardiff's? happy new year Mark. love the 31.. might have to get one! cheers mark
woodenhead
I too am shocked no class 33, it’s not as if you replaced it with a nice old blue class 25 or when they arrive a Revolution class 120 DMU. 😪 Sprinterisation is taking over the Cardiffs

Though my layout mainly being late 80's, I'm hoping Farish or Dapol will do a suburban Class 116 or 117 unit as these were the mainstay of the Shrewsbury- Wolverhampton's as I remember, we'll see what 2023 brings.... From what I recall of childhood Shrewsbury-Wolverhampton trips, the stoppers were a mixture of low-density-seating type DMUs including 101s, maybe 108s (I’ll need to check my photos) and 120s. The Tyseley 116s were suburban units for cross-city workings (doors to every set of seats) and it looks like some got to Shrewsbury (based on pictures online) but I don’t recall them as a mainstay of the regular workings. (I remember those journeys fondly - being able to see out of the front, as long as the driver didn’t pull the blind down, though we often caught the Euston trains with a 47/4 on Mk2E/F coaches as it was faster and more comfortable). Cheers for that info Mark. The 120's I know were regular until the Sprinter 150/1's replaced them in 1986. I remember travelling on a 120 from Aberystwyth to Wolverhampton in 85 with my mum. I do definitely remember travelling on suburban DMU's & also seeing them regular on the line 1986 onwards. You had to change off a shiny new Sprinter 150/1 from Aberystwyth at Shrewsbury for an old DMU (116/117) forward to Wolves, & vice versa... not that I'm expecting a model of one anytime soon in N gauge, but I can hope I guess lol! I agree you couldn't beat the comfy InterCity service! Cheers, Mark Edited January 4, 2023 by 1977joey
1977joey
Hi Everyone, Trains at Shrewford have had their first proper run this year. Some pictures from a session this morning shows the bays occupied with First Generation DMU's. A Class 108 2 car set has just been detached from a 3 car Class 101 & is about to form a Wolverhampton stopper, the 108 at Platform 6 has not long arrived from Newport (Gwent) I must blacken the wheels on that brute trolly! Over on the holding sidings shows the stock stabled off the York to Shrewford TPO, which will go back to York tonight. A Class 20 & 31 are also stabled 47018 then approaches the centre road for a crew change with a South Wales to Stanlow Petroleum train Then after the crew change has took place, the train heads north out of the station area Cheers for now, Mark

1977joey
Afternoon Everyone, Plenty of loco hauled action took place at Shrewford this morning... First up, a 108 has just shunted over to the holding sidings to be cleaned & watered having come off the local service from Crewe Next, due to the unavailability of a Class 150 Sprinter, a Class 31 & a short rake of Mark 1's turn up on the 11:33 arrival from Wolverhampton, this then forms the 11:55 to Derby via Birmingham It approaches Platform 5 the usual booked Platform Todays station pilot, a Class 20 is then about to be coupled up to the coaches to shunt release the 31, which means the 11:55 Derby train will be re platformed to Platform 6 While all the activity is going on in the bay Platforms, 37428 arrives at Platform 7 with the 11:41 to Swansea via Cardiff (Ex Manchester) 37428 then makes it's departure The Class 20 is then removing the stock to shunt release the 31, then will back it into Platform 6 As the 31 is about to be coupled to the other end of the train after all the manoeuvers, InterCity 47612 approaches Platform 4 with 11:49 Portsmouth Harbour to Liverpool Lime Street After being coupled up & a break test, the 31 then departs with the 11:55 Shrewford to Derby via Birmingham New Street Cheers for now, Mark
101Voodoo
Brilliant modelling and has given me inspiration for a similar sized layout heavily inspired by Doncaster. One quick question I’ve not seen (or missed) how many roads does the fiddle yard have? Cheers

These pictures I hope give an idea as they're a bit old & my mobile currently has issues to take new ones.. There are 2 lots of storage yards, One is behind the main station area backscene & the other is an extension I did last year at the rear of the main layout which comes off a spur. I now use this to fiddle round with my coach rakes as it's so much easier & less leaning over the station... Here is the newer fiddle sidings (the extension) when I started to construct them, it has 7 roads now, the board holding these is 6' x 1'... Here is the lesser used fiddle yard behind the main station backscene (again taken a while ago) which now mainly holds freight, this has 11 roads Hope this helps, Cheers, Mark Edited February 25, 2023 by 1977joey 4
1977joey
Hi Everyone, Well the idea was to sit & have a sesh with Shrewford this afternoon, before noticing that there was no movement to the inner loop of the layout which basically includes Platforms 3 & 4 & all the holding sidings. Basically one of the brass power clips has given up, they are old to be fair. So a possession will take place by the S&T over the coming few days & some new power clips have been ordered this evening. Just the matter of lifting the track & ballast where the errant clip is now near the football ground & getting them replaced. Just before this was found out, ticking over in bay Platforms 5 & 6 is Sprinter 150117 on the 1705 to Aberystwyth & Met Cam DMU C814 on the 1657 to Swansea via Heart Of Wales What should have been the next picture would have been the arrival from London Euston, but this train is now cancelled due to an electrical fault with track equipment 😂 Cheers for now, Mark 10
1977joey
Hi Everyone, It's been a while, & i'll be honest,my mojo had really got up & gone for a while. Stresses & strains in life leave the layout the last thing I can be bothered with. But however, I've broke up from work for a few days, it's also raining, so I kicked myself up the backside & have finally sorted out the power to Platforms 3 & 4 and the holding sidings! The first train to traverse the re electrified track was this mornings 1040 arrival from London Euston with 47581 up front, having taken over the train at Wolverhampton As the train approaches Platform 4, seen waiting in bay Platform 6 is the 1050 Sprinter to Aberystwyth, to which there are a fair few passengers on board the Euston service for this connection Seen taking on it's passengers, 150127 waits departure time at Platform 6 bound for Aberystwyth Then at 1050 makes a right time departure Cheers for now, Mark
1977joey
Evening Everyone, 37429 Eisteddfod Genedleithol is about to reverse onto the standard Class only coaches of tonight's 1847 InterCity service 'The Cambrian Coast Express' to Aberystwyth (Ex Euston). The First Class coaches having already being detached & taken back to Wolverhampton by a 47 & is seen being coupled up The 1829 Crewe to Swansea via Heart Of Wales DMU then approaches Platform 7 running 10 minutes late Then makes it's departure 37429 gets the road & the driver opens it up as it departs Platform 4 & heads to the welsh coast Finally, having waited at the signal for the 'Calling on' to bay Platform 5, Sprinter 150117 arrives from Brimingham New Street at 1850, it is about to attach to 150135 already in the Platform. Both will then run as a 4 car set as the 1855 Shrewford to Nottingham via Birmingham New Street The 2 units about to attach Then after a short bump & a raw of the cummins engines they're coupled The 1855 Sprinter service to Nottingham then departs Cheers for now, Mark
