Moderators AY Mod Posted May 28, 2020 Moderators Share Posted May 28, 2020 **L&B 'LYN' Decorated Samples** Our lovely little OO9 model of Lynton & Barnstaple Railway Baldwin 2-4-2T 'LYN' is progressing quickly, with the first factory decorated samples received this week for approval. Thanks to our expert friends at the 'new' L&BR, these feature highly detailed artwork appropriate to each period of the loco's career (9981-9885 only. 9980 is an undecorated black loco aimed at freelance modellers). Standard features include a working LED headlamp, 6-pin DCC decoder interface, detachable couplers, etched metal cowcatchers, and numerous parts specific to period and livery, including coal rails, chimneys, smokebox doors, water tank filler hatches, whistles and safety valves. Please note: The pre-production models shown are not the final approved versions and are subject to correction/modification before production starts. These superb models should be released in late-2020 in the following guises. Heljan L&BR Baldwin 2-4-2T models #9980 Undecorated Black #9981 L&BR dark green Lyn (pre-1906) #9982 L&BR dark green Lyn (1906-22) #9983 SR dark green E782 Lyn (1923-29) #9984 SR Maunsell green E782 Lyn (1929-32) #9985 SR Maunsell green E782 Lyn (1932-35) 5
fezza
Have there been any recent updates on this project? We are obviously some months past the original planned release date.

Pieced together from posts in some L&B groups, they exist and they’re in containers, but have been hit by the pandemic, Chinese New Year, and potentially also the Suez Canal. imminent. RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted April 3, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 3, 2021 Yes it looks like the parking problem in the Suez might be partly responsible as the revised date from Heljan was Q1in the December newsletter and they were mentioned as on the way.
fezza
Great - looking forward to these. If there is further news hopefully people will post here.
BernardTPM
They should not have advertised them as 'Available Now!' back in December. They couldn't have even have been loading them onto a ship back then. Unless they're using a rowing boat...

Can anyone confirm which version(s) the second and third photos represent (they look identical to me; dark green, yellow lining, white connecting rods etc, brown under side tanks and to frame above front bogie ? Thanks .

They are both photos of #9982 L&BR dark green Lyn (1906-22) - in L&BR livery with the 1907 Avonside boiler fitted (no ash blowout covers either side of the smokebox) and with the Pilton 'home made' nameplate fitted. Chuffed 1
Bit perplexed on these liveries. Firstly, there is no evidence Lyn was painted black, as Baldwins stipulated dark green (a standard Baldwin colour, I believe). Secondly, the maroon roof on the first repaint version. What evidence is there for this? Finally the ‘bandit effect’ of the black mask on the cab sides around the window. Again, what evidence is there for this, especially in the post January 1929 final livery? Every photograph I’ve seen post 1922 shows a single colour across the cab sides. Why would the Southern in particular change a standard livery for one loco? None of this appears to be borne out by ‘The L&B Measured & Drawn’. Mystifying. RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted August 26, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 26, 2021 Well it was worth the wait. Only minor quibble is the plastic couplings won’t fit if you fit the cowcatchers, rather than leave those off I ordered brass Greenwich NEM couplers from Light Rly Stores.

GNR Dave
We seem to have two threads for this loco for some reason. Both started by AY Mod
RMweb Premium Hal Nail Posted September 3, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 3, 2021 Agree having 2 is strange but someone will start a third for a random question sooner or later and we will start getting towards normal.
