My vision is permanently (and strongly) rose tinted by obtaining Bachmann's D1500 in exactly the form as I first saw this very Brush type 4 at KX 'bottom shed' in 1962. Perfect. An opinion not a little further enhanced because the retail price when released in 2007 was £39.99, half what the 'overweight' Heljan was typically priced at since introduction. (That model was a major disappointment, it simply didn't get the dainty look of the Brush 4, when compared to the three existing behemoths from EE and Derby, despite my liking for its fine drive which I observed on several friend's purchases.) A little track filth on the Bachmann model running gear was all that was required, and my Brush 4 'fleet' was complete; as its appearance marks the closing day of my march through time of BR(ER)'s steam to diesel transition.
