Hi all

This is one of my exhibition layouts that has been around for a few years now. It has appreared in Model Rail and on video. a few years back and is now booked for their show Rail Alive in September this year. The reason that I have posted it is that the layout is to be added to with a further 12ft length at the fiddle end and a 1ft section on the end of the station end. At present it represents the harbour end of the line. The new section will be at the drying sheds. Unforntutly I cannot find any of the photograhs of the building of the layout. So to show what it is like here are a few shots of it taken over the last year at a couple of shows. The shots are by Jamie and me.

Peter

Ps The last shot on here ' I know that BR some times run late but those two look as if they have passed on waiting for the train?

Very nice layout this, I remember when it was in Model Rail magazine. Can you please tell me which DVD they produced it featured in though?

I personally prefer the layout when it is run in the Steam era - do you have any photos of this period you can post?

Hi Ben04uk

The DVD that it appeared in was Model Rail No. 16 the same as the video No. 16. Here are a few shots of some of the layout in steam days. I still cannot find the shots of the building of the layout or the main shots of the layout in steam. I hope that they were not lost when my computor crashed some time ago.

The new section of the layout that is being planned will enable the layout to go out as one long layout of some 30ft long or as two independant layouts.

Peter

I like the flat hooded wagons the tank engine pulling, how were those made? (like everything else too tho)

Hi Owentherail

The wagons are the Bachmann china clay open wagons weathered with talc. The tarps are made from paper tissues as they come, which are laid down on a flat surface and sprayed mat black car paint. This stiffens them a little. They were then cut to the size of the wagon allowing for the over hang on each side and ends. to this are then attached fine pieces of cotton thread at each corner. the tarp is then laid on the wagon with the cotton underside and folded around the wagon body and is glued down around the folds with a little amount of super glue the ends then being tied around the buffers and trimmed off. The whole is then dusted again with talc to represent the china clay dust and sprayed with a cheap hair laquer to hold it in place. Will try and photograph a wagon in close up and post it so that you can see.

Hi Peter

Thanks for the Correction on the Video 16 and not 2, I couldnt remember which Video Box you gave me to watch, with this particular layout on, I thought it was on a different number Video to the accual DVD version of the Layout... e.g Model Rail DVD(3) Vol 13-16 Box Set.

Hope all is well Peter with you.

Great photos, ones i have not seen before, they are great mate. There taken from angle's i love to see layouts shots taken from... at track level or a long shot.

Cheers

Jamie

Hi All

well here is the start of the new extenstion to the layout. The shots show the attachment of the new board ready for the doweling and the connecting clips to be added. the next few shots show the cork laid and the old track and point ripped up and the new point made and ready to lay. the old point infront of the new one is to be left in place an will be made as if they have left pat of it in place when extending the length of the loop.

Peter.

Hi all

Well I have got the middle yard track laid and it is ballasted ready for the wiring and points motors when the glue is dry. This i hope will solve the problem of the run round loop allowing us to have a least four to five more wagons in the loop.

Fantastic, you couldn't make it up. Either this couple seriously need to liven up their marriage, or they just really like watching trains :)

Quite apart from that, this is a great looking layout. I never get tired of watching china clay trains! Thanks for sharing.

Good to see the extension piece being added onto the layout. That will make the shunt move on the lower yard much easier once its done.

Hi Paul

I have also extended the two lines in the station to allow the tender engines more room to clear the crossing point, I have also extended it again last night and am now fitting a cattle dock. Am struck I have lost the three items of the floor which fits around the track from the Ratio cattle dock. I dont suppose that you have any spare? Will post some shots later today.

PS Will Email you today Paul also the pump joint has gone again.

Hi All

Well I have done some more work on the layout today and am just having a rest and food before I plaster the new parts. I have built the Cattle dock and managed to obtain the pats between the track so that is now all in. Store has to be repaired and then that can be set in.The shots or from this morning and just half hour ago.

Hi all

well today I have competed the plastering on the extension board. The track should have been sprayed today as my new spray gun arrived but found that my track paint had dried up so will have to get some more.
