eBay - the end?

About 2 years ago I lost my pay-as-you-go mobile phone. I tried reporting is as lost, but as every interaction with their "support" to get a replacement SIM with the exisiting number (no, I do NOT want to sign a contract with you, no, I do NOT want a new phone from you) involved them sending an authentication code to my now non-existant phone - as I hardly used the mobile I just gave up and got a new phone and number from a different company.

This has now come back to bite me;

eBay have introduced multi-factor authentication; username , password and code number sent to mobile phone. I never updated my new phone number on my account. So now to log in to buy/sell/change the phone number on my account, you guessed it, a code is sent to now non-existant phone. If I call the "support" number 0800 358 6551 you get a recorded message saying "look at the support pages on line, they have a link at the bottom" and then disconnects with no options given. Clicking said  links requires, you guessed it again, code sent to non-existant mobile phone. There seems to be no other way of contacting them.

Any suggestions? To be honest I feel a bit like just giving up walking away from it, I haven't sold much in a while since they disallowed PayPal and I really don't like the new charging model or seller dashboard pages, I was occasionally still buying stuff but there are so many chancers out there selling overpriced tat and nowadays I prefer buying at "proper" online auction houses or specialist vendors, and general stuff I want is usually on Amazon. But it feels like a waste of 25 year's over 1,500 positive feedback...

On the 2-step verification screen where they ask you to enter the security code there is an option to have the code emailed to you.  Assuming this works and you manage to sign in then click on "Help & Contact" at the top of the screen.  Navigate to the appropriate part of the largely bleedin' obvious help information then scroll down to the bottom where you will find "Need more help?" and clicking on "Contact us" will bring up a chat session.  A little persistence will get you a human agent who, in my experience, will be able to resolve your problem.

Nonsense; PayPal is still used but instead of being a halfway house, funds are automatically injected into your nominated account within 24-36 hours of payment being received from the buyer (in my extensive experience).

Some casually say PayPal is no longer an option, when it's actually an option they have decided to no longer use, because they are wary of sharing bank account details with Ebay (not suggesting the contributor above thinks this, but it is a short-hand I see frequently).
