Heavy transformer load derails in Zidani Most, Slovenia

Not sure what happened, but it looks like they actually had a lucky escape with exactly where it toppled, a bit further along it would have been over the edge. I feel for the poor operator who was in the cabin (the blue box visible in the river)

Especially, when he 's thinking "that lot is just 1 second behind me!"

/Speculation/

Has the track collapsed? (Doesn't look like it.)

Going too fast around that 2nd radius curve? (joke)

That's going to be an interesting recovery.

Yes. note also the high power cables running across the river and railway line directly above.

I wonder if the middle has ridden up the platform, which has provided sufficient rotation to pass the balance point?

Jon

Maybe not "ridden up" but perhaps "pushed outwards" sideways, at the apex of the bend?

Oops, that's not good, but very fortunate in where it landed. My first thoughts too were that given it looks to be on the curved route, it would seem highly likely that the frame has been pushed sideways by contact with the curved platform. I'd have expected it to have been going from left to right given right-hand running (ie exiting the station at this end) but that scenario would be even more likely if the frame (which presumably is much wider than a standard vehicle) has run up the platform ramp and been tilted over. That would have landed it pretty much where it is. It's hard to make out any obvious damage to track, platform or wall in that clip though.

Reading the comments on the news article (I wouldn’t bother!) it seems the transformer was built in Slovenia and was en route to Finland

Edit: actually I may have misunderstood the comment about where it was built, it could have been someone from another country posting

Interesting to see a steam loco on a plinth beside the railway.

It's an 0-8-0T built by Vulcan (Stettin), works no. 2907 of 1913.  In the 1960s it was acquired by Steklarna Hrastnik (Hrastnik Glassworks), and is preserved as their "SH-1".  I think it was put on the plinth in 1994 - shortly after the break-up of the former Yugoslavia.  Here's a photo from 20 years ago - a rather foggy day!

Regarding the transporter vehicle that overturned - I think it is this 24-axle monster registered to Zagrebtrans in Croatia: Uaai-z 33 78 9964 900-4.  Due to its specialisation, it frequently operates into the surrounding countries.  Here's a view (partly obstructed by a more recognisable electric loco) from Komárom, Hungary in 2018.
