RMweb Gold Graham T Posted February 20 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 20 Really nice that you can get your kids involved Scott. And the groundwork looks good! 1
RMweb Gold sjrixon Posted February 20 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 20 Cheers Graham. It's really nice when not only did they enjoy what they were doing, but the output looks good! I need to try and convince them ballasting will be fun! Then we can work on some other bits.

RMweb Gold jamest Posted February 20 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 20 Hi Scott, The scenery around the castle looks fantastic - it blends together well and I really like the vertical section with rock and polyfibre. I echo the comments on getting your kids involved too - very well done. Regards, James
RJS1977
Scott I've just noticed those rather nice-looking coaches in the background of your photos of the castle. They look too long to me to be the Hornby or Hattons generic coaches - so what are they? Richard
RMweb Gold sjrixon Posted February 22 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 22 Your second guess, the Hattons. I've the 4 and 6 wheel ones.
RMweb Gold sjrixon Posted February 24 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 24 (edited) The castle battlements have been really hard work.. But the end isn't far away! Letting the first part set, before bending them around.. Edited February 24 by sjrixon
RMweb Gold sjrixon Posted February 27 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 27 (edited) I cleared the desk last night, the castle is just finishing touches, so time for a tidy. I thought I'd take a look at getting my Cornish Riviera coaches back into service. Getting them out of boxes, somehow I've collected 9 in various conditions! Considering I only run 6 coaches max, that feels like too many! Edited February 27 by sjrixon

RMweb Gold sjrixon Posted February 28 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 28 You say that.... I found 3 old Hornby Colletts.. I think they were the rest of other service. 2 1
RMweb Gold sjrixon Posted March 1 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 1 I've had a flurry of likes for my posts, thanks to everyone who has taken the time to have a read about my little layout. I really enjoy the hobby, so any joy I can share by posting from time to time is great! Anyway.. I've repaired the roofs of the 6 'best' coaches I dug out from the 9, the vents needing replacing. I've re-painted the roof of one, but the rest probably need work. One needed re-wheeling, they had gone rusty. It makes me wonder about swapping the old plastic wheels with metal ones. But that's quite an expensive change. Some of the couplings were broken, so I've swapped them all with hunt coupling buckeye's for 'clips' they are listed for the HST, but slot nicely into the old Dapol ones. Then I've replaced the corridor connections between each one. Just need to fix one buffer now!

RMweb Gold sjrixon Posted March 23 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 23 I spend a productive evening with some quite bright air dry clay. This is the tried and tested method from Chris Neverad. In tried a small rolling pin a few time, but honestly nothing worked quite a well as just getting in with my hands and a little water. Trouble is, I need another packet now!

RMweb Gold sjrixon Posted March 29 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 29 (edited) The work on the goods yard progressed nicely. The whole area has a covering now, fence and a hedge added. I feel the centre area needs to be a ligher shade, but now it's got a base colour, it's easier to start adding the details. Annoying... I glued the shed down, then realised the lights have stopped working! Edited March 29 by sjrixon 10
