Cheers Graham. It's really nice when not only did they enjoy what they were doing, but the output looks good!

I need to try and convince them ballasting will be fun! Then we can work on some other bits.

Hi Scott,

The scenery around the castle looks fantastic - it blends together well and I really like the vertical section with rock and polyfibre.

I echo the comments on getting your kids involved too - very well done.

Regards,

James

Scott

I've just noticed those rather nice-looking coaches in the background of your photos of the castle.

They look too long to me to be the Hornby or Hattons generic coaches - so what are they?

The castle battlements have been really hard work..  But the end isn't far away!

Letting the first part set, before bending them around..

I cleared the desk last night, the castle is just finishing touches, so time for a tidy.

I thought I'd take a look at getting my Cornish Riviera coaches back into service. Getting them out of boxes, somehow I've collected 9 in various conditions! Considering I only run 6 coaches max, that feels like too many!

Or. . . .you are three short to run an Up and a simultaneous Down service. . .

I've had a flurry of likes for my posts, thanks to everyone who has taken the time to have a read about my little layout. I really enjoy the hobby, so any joy I can share by posting from time to time is great!

Anyway.. I've repaired the roofs of the 6 'best' coaches I dug out from the 9, the vents needing replacing. I've re-painted the roof of one, but the rest probably need work. One needed re-wheeling, they had gone rusty. It makes me wonder about swapping the old plastic wheels with metal ones. But that's quite an expensive change.

Some of the couplings were broken, so I've swapped them all with hunt coupling buckeye's for 'clips' they are listed for the HST, but slot nicely into the old Dapol ones. Then I've replaced the corridor connections between each one.

Just need to fix one buffer now!

The nicely lined mogul, now with plates and driver fitted, pauses at Oregon Jnt.

Need to find some lamps... But I can't quite bring myself to sort out a better coal load yet...

I spend a productive evening with some quite bright air dry clay. This is the tried and tested method from Chris Neverad. In tried a small rolling pin a few time, but honestly nothing worked quite a well as just getting in with my hands and a little water. Trouble is, I need another packet now!

Mostly my Daughters work too!

It's amazing how much creativity contributes to a model railway. Honestly I think creativity is the most important aspect of model railways.

The work on the goods yard progressed nicely. The whole area has a covering now, fence and a hedge added. I feel the centre area needs to be a ligher shade, but now it's got a base colour, it's easier to start adding the details.

Annoying... I glued the shed down, then realised the lights have stopped working!

The pigs really don't appear bothered as the train goes past...

Starting to get a few small areas that are starting to look like a railway.

As I've got older, I do feel that creativity shrinks.. I find it so much harder to imagine what something may or should look like. The kids however are so much more open minded...
