Looks great with the admended embankment -looking really good , the lighting doesnt harm looks like sunlight .

You can amend the 'white balance' if using a phone cam this can sometimes give a natural light even when taking photos inside, its as simple as getting your phone (or camera) to focus on something which is supposed to be white like a piece of paper, it'll then adjust your photos to look right under those lighting conditions. A godsend if you build your models in a shed or cellar!

Thanks again for all the kind comments everyone, it’s much appreciated 😁

I’ve done more on the layout I’ve the last week or so;
More Scottish greenery (and yellow) added to the layout with the addition of some @ScaleModelScenery flowering gorse and fern / bracken 🌱

I’ve also finished off the fence in along the running line, another excellent SMS kit (I still need to tone the silver down slightly) and I’ve also added a couple of figures around the distillery.

Cheers! 🥃
Adam

This last view just takes the biscuit. I don’t know where you can take this layout from here. So much to be inspired by. The undergrowth, the fencing, the lighting, Ooh.. that fence post that is slightly leaning, intentional or not, a great little detail. If you ever feel like sharing this with the readers of The Micro Model Railway Dispatch just drop me a line.

Thank you very much Ian.

On the whole I’m pretty happy with the Distillery itself now, just more detailing to do around the loco shed and mainline area.
I’d love to feature in the Micro Model Railway Dispatch, I will definitely drop you a line once I’m finished with the detailing.

Thanks again!

A further update I’ve now added the front face to the layout.

Great work Adam. Do you intend to exhibit it in the future? i would to see it in the flesh as it were.

David

Thank you! Yes definitely, I’m hoping to get some in the book for next year although developments in life may delay this until 2025, but 100% at some point I will be on the show circuit with it 🙂

Some recent developments on my layout:

1. Wire fence installed at the front of the distillery.

2. Track added, ballasted and weathered on the ‘mainline’ section.

3. Mainline detail added, signal box, signal, fencing, static grass, point rodding and a telegraph pole.

4. Some work around the loco shed, an ash pile added, a industrial type water crane for topping up the locos tank.

5. I’ve also fitted the backscene now which I believe has transformed the layout.

Coming together slowly! Still plenty to do though, including adding extra foliage to the embankment and front part of the layout to enhance and better match the backscene.

What is the source of the fencing and gates please?

D8006 on trial in Scotland in 1958… or on my micro layout in 2023 😁

There's something about class 20s on tiny layouts. They just work. Perfect size for a super shunter or a visiting diesel.

I agree, a single class 20 is the perfect super shunter 😁

Looks like the fireman of Scottish allocated J72 68733 has overcooked it as it arrives at the distillery sidings with a single brake van working a pick up goods.

I had the Hornby brake van in my spares box, I just had to chop it with the dremel, paint and weather it.

The J72 is an old mainline version that I picked up from eBay for £8, I just gave it a quick respray, added some transfers and gave it a little weathering.
I just wanted to add something different to help with the scenic break.

Still needs further tweaking until I’ll be happy with it but you get the idea.

Cheers,

Adam

Stunning, I thought it was a different layout for a moment, next level modelling in my opinion.

Very kind of you Alex thank you 🙏

My next ‘To do’ is weather and detail my stock, it looks a little too clean to be in the Scottish highlands!
Here’s a few more pictures from todays ‘playing trains’ session 😁

I sat looking at the layout last night and thought I want something to cover up the direction change on the backscene, I noticed a number of distillery buildings have a long thin chimney and decided that would be perfect as it would also add some depth to the distillery itself.

So the next thing was find something close or make something from scratch, it turns out we have a lot of Calpol syringes from when my son was a baby and it turns out the internals of one of these fit the job perfectly!
Work with what you have! 😁

I’ve also started to tackle the weathering of my rolling stock, I’ll tackle my locos later once I’ve practiced on my wagons.
Here are the first two I’ve done, Accurascale’s MDV wagons, I left one clean so I’d at least got one left if I made a balls up of the first two!
They still need some more fettling yet, I’m not happy with the insides and there’s also some coal dust to add to one and a coal load to add to the other!

Thanks for looking 🥃
