Thanks for the interest in these - we’d hoped to get them available for preorder at the same time as the announcement (ie when Caroline arrived) but all the order processing is taking up time so it might be next week before the order book opens.

Cheers Mike

A terrific announcement. Do you know which of the liveries will be suitable for the Channel Tunnel traffic? I can see the artwork for all of them includes 'CT' labels but presumably the domestic wagons don't usually go abroad?

Ed

They are all suitable for continental use - it's the RIV wagon type designation code that includes a letter for "ferry use" to / from the UK - ISTR it's the "f" in "Sfhimms".

No "f" - no leaving / entering the UK.

The news of this version of the IHA has prompted me to dig out and complete my scratchbuilt model of the IHA-G, which is ex-GERS and now Touax. 20230814_232007.jpg.02aa90adac4377c0c9e883c42ac9803f.jpg20230814_232055.jpg.7e3bce1a119b2a3ce8f32d95b9d485a9.jpgBuilt from drawings on the Touax website (www.touaxrail.com/content/uksisfhimmns) and due to be finished with some excellent Railtec transfers (Sheet 8599). I also have a pair of Bachmann Y27 bogies ready - just trying to P4 them for complication.

I might actually get it finished before the Revolution IHA-F arrives!

There should be some spaces in the number sequence, being vehicles destroyed in the Staplehurst derailment (1996 ?)

I had wondered if any of these wagons had come a cropper over the years.  There are some gaps in the number sets - maybe that explains it!  Anyone know how many wagons were scrapped?

cheers

There are a couple of people who post on here who were involved in the clear-up. There had been another incident at Maidstone East which involved wagons carrying coil; I'm not sure what type.

I recommend a look at page 32 of the April 2021 issue of Rail Express.  There is an article by Gareth Bayer on the decision by Ermewa to dispose of almost the entire original batch of these wagons.  The wagons (46 out of a total of 48 in the batch) were scrapped by Sims of Newport at the end of 2020 and beginning of 2021. The article sets out the individual wagon numbers and dates they were sent to Sims. GB stated that the reason for the disposal was unknown.

Hi there,

Thanks.  For present day versions it'll be sensible to avoid numbers from batch 1 and stick to examples from batches 2 and 3.

cheers

Link to Flickr photo of the Staplehurst derailment , only one vehicle involved , not sure if it was scrapped . The only wagon from the batch 31.87.4667 .000 - 099 I never saw for sight was 31.87.4667.077 so this maybe wagon involved in this derailment . The missing numbers in my list posted earlier are 31.87.4667.000 , 010 , 014 , 016 , 019 , 020 , 021 , 023 , 026 , 027 , 032 , 033 , 041 , 045 , 050 , 052 , 057 , 064 , 067 , 070 , 073 , 075 , 076 , 080 , 081 , 085 , 088 , 092 , 093 , 095  I assume these  became the first batch to be re numbered to 33 . 87 .4667 . 000 - 029 for what I think we're used for domestic UK traffic at the time .

1996 Staplehurst Derailment (no.2).

  • 2 weeks later...

I’ve just received the latest Revolution Trains newsletter which says that the order book for the 4mm IHA wagon is now open.

By the way does anyone know when the letters H or HT and the yellow dots were first applied to the canvas covers?  I model up to 1995 so obviously don’t want to include anything which was only used after this date.

Very exciting that the wagons are available to pre-order, I too would most appreciate it if you had the start dates of the various versions if possible please, with a wagon like this it's tricky to find many period shots online from the late 90s to verify which ones were about, especially when most shots available from back then are the usual three-quarter loco images!

I'm modelling 1998-2000 period and would eagerly press the 'Buy' button on the right ones once knowing which releases are the most suitable for that time range!

Many thanks in advance guys :)

Hi James,

The versions we are offering were all built 1991-1993.  The Ermewa branding has only started to be applied in the last few years.  Of the others, I do not know when the yellow HT lettering and dots were applied, however I do know they are not now significant, so I would imagine it was a while ago.

cheers

A question for @Revolution Ben if I may? I too am interested in getting my pre-order in as I'm intending to run steel trains once the the layout is set up. On visiting the site, I tappity-tapped the wagons I wanted but then I was faced with a further choice of A-B-C or D - what is this sub-choice please? I've read through this thread but I'm no wiser, unfortunately.

A sub-question follows: If I want six different numbered ones, what have I to choose and do I have to order 2 x 3 or is it just 6 once? (I assume I'll have to place the order for 2 x 3).

Cheers,

Philip

I think the first  batch  of  re numbering as  in 33.87.4667.000 - 029  which were for UK domestic traffic only featured the yellow circle on them being in pool 0887 , along with some from the other  batches numbered 33.87.4746.000 - 029 which were a!so in pool 0887 so giving a total of 60 wagons ,  all  the other wagons were in pool 0928 ( 31 . 87 4667 xxx. ) and pool 0930 ( 31.87.4647 xxx ) hope this helps , I'll try and sort out a list soon . As for any other markings , I have no idea !

The A, B, C and D are different running numbers of the specific liveries, so each livery had 4 different running number.

Hi Philip

A/B/C/D are different numbers of each livery variant (as described in the description if you scroll down or in the wagon number which changes when you select each version).

I should have also said you can order as many IHAs on one order as you want - no need to order different versions on different orders (we just ask that different models eg IHAs and say PCAs are kept on different orders to make life easier for everyone).

Thanks Mike
