These wagons have been in use since the early 90s and are still seen widely here and on the continent. Photo courtesy Roger Cutts. The wagons are used for steel coil and operate between rolling mills and terminals or ports for import/export. A route map and suitable consist guide is on our website. JSpencer
Great news and the website contained tons of useful info. I especially liked the route map showing they made it to the Isle of Grain. Early 1990s for me...

CazRail
Been wondering when these wagons would be made, can see these being very popular. Just about fits in with my north Wales theme with the Margam-Dee Marsh workings.

RMweb Gold BMacdermott Posted August 4, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 4, 2023 Hello everyone Congratulations to Ben and the team on this announcement. We wish them every success with the project. Although the vehicle was Low Polling in The 00 Wishlist Poll 2022, it has to be said that most 'modern era air-braked' freight stock shares that position - we can't offer any 'evidence' as to why, but it has always been that way. Crucially - it hasn't stopped makers making plenty of vehicles.🙂 Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team)

Thanks. Chris. Hi Chris, According to Ermewa the 'H' and 'HT' markings were used to signify particular loads for a while, but are no longer used. However plenty of wagons still carry them. The 'Ermewa' branded wagons with the new canvas covers don't carry them. cheers Ben A.
mevaman1
Brilliant addition to the range. These have run since the early 90s and are a must for steel trains. Thankyou Revolution, you have made an oldish man very happy. Andrew

What a brilliant announcement, it's impossible to model modern covered steel trains without these, and I've long thought they deserved to be done RTR thanks to their commonality. 25 minutes ago, Southernman46 said: Bit of appetite wheting .................. 56113 & 56087 with (1120) [6V62]SO Tilbury Riverside [Colas] - Llanwern Exchange sidings steel train at Chipping Sodbury on 10-05-14 Ahhh those were the days. I can't believe that's nearly 10 years ago! Definitely firmly my modelling period. In addition to the previously mentioned model types in Ben's post, the Cavalex BLAs can be seen with them too. There's a VTG black hoodless JSA in there too. Although this is a long distance run, mixed covered and open wagons are quite common on the Margam - Llanwern trips. 66019 leads a mix of covered and open steel carriers on 6Z48 Margam - Middlesborough AV Dawson through Cardiff Central. 2020 Some general views, all just mixes of covered coil carriers: Seen from Bishton Crossing, 66171 departs from Llanwern where traffic was attached to 6M41 Margam - Round Oak. 2019 A scene no longer to be repeated, as 6O78 Llanwern - Dollands Moor emerges from the Severn Tunnel. Ex DRS 66409, one of the original five Colas locos as 66844, sold to GBRf, renumbered to 66745 and hired back to Colas is seen climbing away from the Severn Tunnel at Pilning, long before the wires went up. 2011 66125 speeds through Severn Tunnel Junction on the main working 6V05 Round Oak - Margam steel empties. Booked for the relief, I was pleased to see it routed through the station on Open Train Times! 2019. 66116 seen from the bridleway between Coalpit Heath and Westerleigh with 6B50 Swindon - Llanwern, running rather early. 2020, looks like I might have to dust off the graffiti decal artwork I've done for these. bazjones1711
With the great news from Revolution Trains releasing the French IHA covered coil wagons , here is a list of the numbering of these wagons . I think the last two batches had the top part of the wagon ends painted white when they first appeared . These wagons also worked to BSC Ebbw Vale and were regularly seen on the ADJ to Wembley service through Newport most days of the week . From what i can remember of the IHA coil wagons they were numbers thus : Design code IHE 796 31.87.4667.000 - 099 ( later renumbered 33.87.4667.000 - 099 ) Design code IHE 857 31.87.4767.000 - 047 ( later renumbered 33.87.4767.000 - 047 ) I think these have now all been scrapped at SIMS Newport Design code IHE ??? 31.87.4904.000 - 060 ? ( the highest one i ever saw was 31.87.4904.060 ! ) Some of the batch were re numbered again to 33.87.4915 .xxx series

Great choice of wagon to add yet more variety to steel rakes. Chris

The E984 wagons have a slightly different arrangement of the side placards. It wouldn't surprise me if the 1991 built wagons are being or have been scrapped as they're the oldest. cheers Ben A.

Fat Controller
With regard as to the use of open and covered wagons:- Open coil wagons are used to carry Hot Reduced Coil, which is covered by a substance called 'Mi Scale This falls off when the coil passes through the finishing plant mill, after which the coil is usually 'pickled, to give a surface that will take a coating (in, zinc or polymer) Covered coil wagons normally carry Cold Reduced Coil, which is ready for the end user. 2
