Following my modular experiments in 009 the imminent O scale L&B stock from Lionheart meant I decided to follow the same idea in the larger scale too.

I’ve created a end that I’ve had laser cut and will use for a couple of OO modular ideas too

Peco O16.5 with spaced out sleepers, Scratchbuilt L&B ish 16.5 and O14 track.

I considered O14 but as I already had several items of stock in O16.5 I decided the slight difference would be acceptable to be able to run everything.

The initial two stations will be based on compressed versions of Lynton & Barnstaple.

Well rain stopped play today but boards are made and I’ve filled screw holes and sealed one side of each so that’s all drying nicely. Other side tomorrow as the ply was a bit flaky on the edge.

I’ve been playing around with an uncoupler idea. I tried a wire hook but it’s going to scratch something.

So I dug out some small magnets and araldited one to a coffee stirrer.

Using it with the magnet away from the coupling is a bit too ‘soft’

IMG_0504.jpeg.827c7403bced3b9d2089eac9e5197da1.jpegIt’s not too powerful so only pulls up the hook, not the whole loco ;)

The best method was to hook up using the magnet itself and then twist to the wooden side for a softer drop.

Have you got the book "Lynton and Barnstaple, measured and drawn" its full of drawings of rolling stock, buildings, bridges, etc

Yes, 👍 the goods shed is from a heavily condensed copy of the drawing from that. The main buildings are too big to scale and I didn’t want the small Chelfham style Dapol are doing. I like the proportions of the little Scenecraft one so thought I’d try it in 7mm.

Just wondering what points those are? markits?

Thanks

Marcway, he did me a special as the jig needed rebuilding so rather than pay the usual special price I got them done to my spec before he added the sleeper guides. I wanted flat bottom with solid blades and couldn’t find a source of parts. Plus I really don’t enjoy building points so as I’ve used them before and they were well built I splashed out.
I will redo the tiebars with brass pins as they are more reliable than soldered joints long term but that’s an easy job compared to filing blades and noses.

Looks good. I’d also been trying to work out whether a suitable L&B layout could be condensed into a smaller space and wondering about the proposed branch terminus at Woody Bay that was never built.

Andrew

That’s why I did Combe Martin in 009 but I fancied something closer to the prototype for these. The bay will hold three coaches and the main platform four but you’d need a second engine to shunt release four.

Final plan and there’s the option to add an extension to the yard on the right hand end later on, it won’t fit in easily at home but will look better if I take this out and about.

Thanks for the further info in the previous reply. Apologies if I’ve missed this elsewhere, but what area is this, my guess is 8ft by 2ft but I could be wildly out? I like how you’ve managed to fit the goods shed and second siding in, something I’d failed to do in my doodling!

Close 😉 8ft by 18 inches. Simply because I can then get two boxed pairs in side by side between the cars wheel arches.

It took a few goes, MjCampbell said some useful stuff over on NGRM that led to a slight shuffle of bits. I was most concerned about not bunching up the two main buildings.

This shot was important to me for some reason. I just like the composition

That scene is superb. Very Lynton-esque.

Have to admit that there was part of me thinking that this looked slightly familiar but couldn’t put my finger on it. Have now gone looking over on NGRM and shall have a good catch up of your thread on there!

My access there is erratic as their server doesn’t seem to like Hutchinson Telecom randomly. Sometimes I’m locked out for days, sometimes I can make an odd post or a few before lockout again. It just says ‘can’t make a secure connection’. Interweb savvy friends have tried various things but it’s still erratic.

Anyway back to the fun stuff I understand 🤣

I’ve added the extension and plugged the voids under the eaves.

Waiting for the windows to arrive to cut out the openings.
