I think the cab fronts would come up well if you sand down all the bits that stick out, they all seem to be very overscale!

I don't envy you with those cabs end castings, again not one of Colins finest hours!

Agreed.  The cab window frames stick out far too much.

Cheers

It’s great to see some proper down to earth modelling in progress. I converted a Lima Class 117 into a Derby Lightweight unit using an ancient set of brass sides and white metal ends, powered with a black beetle motor bogie. It’s gradually falling apart after several years of use but I’m happy with it - I much prefer what I built to simply buying an RTR version from Bachmann

Here is my Derby Lightweight- a bit ropey but it works, particularly now that I have repaired and lubricated the motor bogie. I forget the name of the kit manufacturer but it is quite old. The sides and ends are etched brass , only the roof ends are white metal and I didn’t profile them as well as I should.

Cab front window frames filed and sanded down and re-primed.  Looks much better.

Might be worth redoing the destination blinds. The frames look way too thick.

This is really good stuff, Darius - silk purse out of a sow's ear? Not quite, but excellent work being done. I'm looking forward to seeing the completed model of this unusual prototype.

There's now hope for an old MTK Cravens unit that lurks deep within my roundtuit pile - a <good buy from eBay> several years ago...

Yes - Craftsman. Thank you for reminding me. The brass sides are very thin and I remember that soldering the ends squarely was a b***er of a job.

I know you're a fast worker Darius, but to get this far with an MTK kit of all things, and with some home-made parts, in just 10 days is outstanding, even by your standards - do you actually stop for those irritating interruptions like food, or sleep.......or PNBs?!

A question - obviously I can see that you've painted the top part of the side window frames silver, but have you also run silver around the edges of the main panes, or is it a trick of the light? Or perhaps you've used a method I saw on an MTK Derby Lightweight unit back in the mid-1970s where the builder had run a file around the openings after painting to expose the edge of the aluminium - it looked really good; of course this would also cut through and expose the edge of the primer but alongside the aluminium this would be all but invisible.

I'm always interested to see your latest project, as I never know what you'll tackle next, but the speed at which you turn them out does sometimes leave me feeling..........a little inadequate!

😂
